Do you think animals go to Heaven?

It's been nearly four years since I lost my beloved cat who I had for almost 18 years. In my opinion, she was just as much a "person" as another loved one or friend -- capable of the same emotions as humans....showing love and empathy. It would be hard for me to believe that she had anything less than a soul, just as we do. And I can't imagine a Heaven without the ones we love, including our furry friends. I'm not sure why, but I've been thinking a lot about her lately and missing her as much as if she'd died yesterday.

I lost both my cats 6 months apart from eachother, brother and sister siamese. One died at home and the other I had to put down. Neither was easy to go through, those losses. Had them cremated and (no not sitting out on the mantel in the livingroom) they're up in the bedroom on a shelf behind frame photo's of them each.

I think, just as humans, the soul leaves. That energy has to go somewhere, so I really hope one day I get to see my babies again.

I miss mine too Jen. And think of them at times. One died 2001 and the other 2002.

WWIU, I'm sorry you lost your two so close to each other. That must have been such a rough time for you.

My poor fur-baby hung on through awful cancer long after she should have. I think she did that for me. During her last days, even as her weight whittled down to half her normal size, she spent most of her time snuggled up to me comforting me because I'd just had a miscarriage and was quite sick. Finally, I couldn't take her suffering anymore and had her put to sleep.

It's that kind of compassion and empathy that you see animals exhibit that makes me think that they are just as loved by God and have a place in Heaven too.

I'm sorry for your loss too. I can honestly say going through it was as painful as it was losing my father. I think it's the tie to my father, he just loved those cats and they loved him. When I moved out my mom gave me the cats on occasion for visits then one day she just said take them, they miss you!

I feel for what you went through, it is so hard seeing an animal suffer, go through that sort of illness. I don't know which was harder...Finding one gone at home or putting one down. Yuk. I think that's why I don't have any pets right now...

Did you ever google rainbowbridge and pets? If not, try it. It's a beautiful site.

Unless a living creature commits evil, at which time they go to hell, they go to heaven. Your cat is in heaven. I don't think killing mice and other animals would make her a murderer, since we humans kill animals to eat too.

If what makes living creatures alive is the soul, then that means God gave animals life to and he won't turn them away at the gate. I don't know if there is a seperate section designated for animals only in heaven so that there wouldn't be attacks on the humans, but I believe we will all be reunited with our pets up in heaven. I can't wait to see my Fluffy again.:o

That is a neat place on the net...all of the beautiful memorials. It really proves the true purity of love. I think that's why the love between a person and their pet is often compared to the love of a parent and a child....it's pure and unconditional and such a wonderful blessing.

Romans 8:19-21 I believe touches on the issue of animals going to heaven. Yes I believe the entire animal kingdom will be redeemed one day as well as the plant kingdoms.

v.19 For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who His children really are.

v.20 Against its will, everything on earth was subjected to the curse of sin which is death.

v.21 All creation anticipates the day when it will join God's children in glorious freedom from death & decay.

I believe all creation means all of creation not some of creation. Not just the human race. Because of adam's sin all creation has been subjected to death. Because of Christ's sacrifice on the cross for the sins of mankind & resurrection, all creation is redeemed.

So true. And when I think about God's love, and the purity of His love, it's so easy to see that reflected in the innocent beauty of nature and all of his creatures.

Does that mean that all the mosquitos I've swatted are going to heaven too? All of a sudden, heaven doesn't seem that appealing...

Well, regarding mosquitoes.... I think we are talking about Heaven being a place for sentient beings with the ability to feel complex emotions such as empathy, love, frustration, sadness, etc... I doubt that a bug would fit into that category, but you never know.

Mosquitoes do have heaven but it is hell for evil people. They get to suck all the blood they want and the evil ones get bitten for eternity.

I don't know if animals have a heaven or not, but I'd sure be disappointed if I get to the pearly gates and my now-deceased dog isn't there to greet me.

Well if such things did exist I would be really pissed :p I will have about 300+ animals waiting for me, and I would guess that I would spend my eternity feeding and picking up after them. :lmao:

The Bible teaches that animals just die and their spirit goes down. They can not go to heaven or hell - they just die.

I believe insects will have a place in heaven. You see for right now we live in a fallen world because of adam's sin. Everything decays and dies eventually. Misquitos and other insects are posionus pests for now but one day they will be redeemed too. They won't be posionous anymore on the day of redemption for all creation. Just like the lion and the lamb are enemies right now but when the creation is redeemed the lion will lay down with the lamb. God created insects for a purpose.

You see our world was a paradise before adam and eve sinned in the garden of eden. The animals and man lived in harmony with one another. Insects were not posionous at that time. Snakes did not crawl on their bellies. Right now the world as we know it is paradise lost. When Christ returns to this planet He will burn away this old creation & there will be new heavens and a new earth. The new planet will be paradise restored. A child will be able to pick up a rattlesnake without fear of being bitten when paradise is restored.

Alot of other exciting things will take place in the new heavens and new earth but that's for another thread of discussion.

That would mean the spirit of animals is made up of different material? Why would their spirits just "disappear" and go nowhere? I don't think God would do that.:(

Silly question to some.....but heck if heaven is supposed to be so grand......why not just go now?

Why do so many people fear death if they so believe in heaven?

And perhaps those that disagree if animals are or are not there should get their own space in this heaven?

Yes, animals are not God-like and are not created to be immortal.

Humans, on the other hand are immortal beings - in other words, we can not die. Or death itself, will not result in a cessation of consciousness, but self-awareness will continue after death.

Because they do not have a close relationship with God. If you dont know God that well, regardless of profession, and have not lived a life pleasing to God and in God's will - well, I can understand myself, or anyone being a bit anxious about appearing before the Judgement Seat of Christ.

Not so true there AT..... I do not have a relationship with any "God", I do not fear death.... I avoid it however, so I can continue to enjoy what I have now, I would miss many things..... the only thing I fear about death is if it is going to be painful and long lasting. I have no fear of judgement, even if there did end up being a judge....... I have lived and continue to live my life in a way that is good and giving.......so why worry? Whats the big deal?
