JeT'Aime
I have a question. My sister started doing a pilates workout at home, and she says that it really makes a difference. In comparison to working out (running, swimming) is it really better for you. I've been working out, and i did pilates one day, and i felt like i didn't even work out!? klmoria
Pilates is a different type of workout than aerobic exercises like running and swimming. You won't work up a huge sweat or become short of breath, but you should feel some stress on your muscles. Personally, I enjoy pilates but haven't noticed major changes in my appearance. I do notice after doing some pilates ab moves, the next day my stomach feels tighter. If you enjoy more intense workouts but want to try pilates for a change, maybe just incorporate it into your workout once or twice a week.

Pilates is intense workout for me and makes me sweat ,really depends on what type of pilates you do ...I do pilates tapes that last over an hr.. It works your core and you use your body weight to do pilates. I like to be versatile in exercising changing up my routine because your body gets use to the same thing and you get at a plateau.. You have to shock your body in order to notice a change!! I exercise everyday and am consistant with working out with a variety of things throughout the week... I do yoga, pilates, aerobics, kick boxing, weights and tai chi ..
Candied-Heart
I have been taking Pilates classes for 7 years in a studio. I tend to dislike the DVD and Video versions because whilst they are good for off days when you can't attend class, they do not incorporate the 90 percent of exercise method that Pilates is all about, machine work. Pilates was designed by the man of the same name, to be a low-impact exercise for those in the war who were coping with serious injuries and needed to carefully remain strong and pliable. It is also commonly used for pregnant women to alleviate back pain and keep 'taut' without heavy exercise. In my job, it's used as a method of injury prevention and treatment amongst athletes and dancers. A less harsh way to recouperate from injuries sustained through the season. Whilst Pilates is heavily based on the core ['tummy'] and correcting posture, it can benefit the leg muscles and the arms. When I go to class, it is a 90 minute session which includes floor work, balance work on a stabilizing ball and work on machines called reformers which correct your center of gravity with a 'pulley system'. I always feel tight, refreshed and longer and leaner after a session. I do this a few times a week and feel most of the benefit in my stomach and butt.
