Questions in english

Recommended Posts

YOU ASK: "Do we use " I focus in tennis or I am focused in tennis " AND " I specialise in maths or I am specialised in maths"?"

I am focused on tennis.

I am focused on the sport of tennis.

Tennis is my favorite sport.

I enjoy playing tennis intensely.

Right now, my attention is on the sport of tennis.

I specialise in math. (There is no plural of math. Math is math.)

I am a specialist in math.

My specialty is math.

I concentrate my efforts on math.

Math is my specialty.

I am a math specialist.

I am a mathematician.

I hope this gives you enough choices. Each group means approximately the same thing.

I'm really sorry but personally, I hate math and I don't know much about tennis except love is involved somehow.

Actually, in the UK, they do pluralize math. Thus you study "maths", ie algebra, calculus and the like. Singular sounds funny to them. So it depends what type of English you are using.

Learned this while doing my master's in London.

But either way, plural or singular, I hate it/them, too.

I stand corrected. Although I lived in London for two years, I never heard anyone say "maths." But Stuck says its use is OK there so I guess it's OK.

I knew there was another reason why we told the Queen to stick it and boarded the ships for America.
