Hi I have a question and hope someone can help me out here. My husband has been complaining of feeling depressed for awhile now. He even said he felt he had manic depression. Now I know only a doctor can determine that, however, this has been about 8-9 months ago now and he went to his doc for a routine check up, before he went I told him to mention to his doctor how he had been feeling. When he returned home he told me he mentioned it to the doc, and his doc gave him a written test for depression. Now I have never heard of a written depression test before. I guess its got alot of questions on it and you check yes, no sometimes etc. I have been depressed in the past but my doctor just asked me questions verbally, didn't give me a written test to check anything.

My husband told me after the doctor reviewed this depression test he would get back to him on it. Here it is 8-9 months later and not a word. Husband didn't even follow up by calling and checking about it. Makes me wonder if he ever really mentioned it to his doctor anyway. As depressed as he has been, I don't see how his doctor wouldn't think he saw on this test that he wasn't depressed. Cuz its clear he is. So I see it that either he didn't take this test and never even mentioned it to the docotor, or he took the test but wasn't truthful in his answers, or his doctor is slack about getting back to someone on the matter. My main question is are there doctors that even give a "written depression test?" I guess just because my doctor didn't before doesn't mean some doctors don't give written tests. What do others think?

Take the online test. They are reliable.

But if your husband is manic-depressive (which is quite different from "normal" depression), the results might not be accurate. But then you would also have clues in his behavior, that will point at that possibility.

Thanks so much for replying. Ok I see now that some doctors can give written tests for depression. He is depressed no doubt and yes manic depression is different from regular depression. I just found it odd he would say he took this test, and the doctor never called him back with the results, nor did husband call and find out about it either. So like I said either he lied and didn't even take a test or he wasn't truthful in his answers and it showed he wasn't suffering from depression. Thanks so much.

Maybe the doctor did respond but the husband is hiding it? If he's depressed, he'll also have little interest in following up on things so it's highly possible he just didnt find out about it.
