fatty
Hello, I was reading this post, and I have been going to the gym for hte past 2weeks. I have started to eat proper, coke/pepsi is replaced with fruit juice, Cookies replaced with fruits. I do cardio 5 days a week for one hour. 30 min treadmill 30 min eliptical. I am really frustrated because i have not lost a pound . I am still 240lbs and my stomach is not going anywhere. Next week my goal is to loose 5 pounds and do 30 min rowing and 30 min treadmill. I hope i can get some insight as to why i am not loosing nothing.

cal gal
I am soooo happy - I have gained five pounds in the past week! I hope I can keep it on.... it has taken me eating four times as much food every day to gain. I just hope it's not like the usual deal where those pounds are gone again in a few days. I am tired of everyon asking me if I'm ok! I am ok! I am just too thin! It doesn't mean I am not strong or capable of holding my own. Want to keep the lbs on, so hopefully! Spleen
I say the best way to gain weight is to work out and exercise, build muscle since it weighs more than fat, and looks much better. If you gain weight by eating a lot, it can eventually affect your metabolism. I know a couple of people who were super skinny and wanted to gain weight, so they ate and ate, but ended up gaining too much, and now they regret trying to fatten up because it's so hard to reverse that. So I'd be careful, unless that's what you want, lol. The muscle weight has worked for me; I've always been slender, around the same weight, until I started a dance/aerobics class. I wasn't sure what my results would be, I was just doing it to be healthy and active. Most of the bigger girls lost a lot of weight, which was great for them. I ended up gaining a pound... well, losing 3 lbs of fat and gaining 4 lbs of muscle. I was extremely happy with that. So, do more exercises and cardio as well as eat more, but make sure it's healthy fats, e.g., olive oil, avocados, nuts, etc.
Author Touche
Yes, Spleen good advice on the healthy fats. I won't work out though. I NEED the fat and don't want to burn calories. Once I reach my goal weight, I might start working out a little but I really need the fat and I'm just too afraid if I start working out I'll burn calories that I won't be able to make up for just by eating. I'm already eating as much as I can.
Jeanette
Hey touche I really want to gain weight. I'm 20 and i weigh 95 pounds but for some reason have a fat stomach. I want to gain weight on my legs. I want to gain weight but not by stuffing myself. I use to go the gym and do cardio and strength training but stopped going to the gym. Im going to start again soon. I just want a flat stomach and gain weight on my legs. My stomach however sticks out even though i weigh 95 pounds, is that because i lost so much weight? But i use to always have a fat stomach but i just noticed it now. What should i do?
loveheart59
Ive put on 4lbs in a week a couple of months bk but i think it was because my body went into starvation mode and was trying to keep everything what I ate when I upped my intake. It often doesnt last though, If you eat too many calories per day without exercising you will put a lot of strain on your liver and bloodsteam so its better to gain slowly but steadily. Last year i put on 1st 8lbs in 3 months (or jst under) but i used a fast food diet and regretted it. It tends to go alright till you get to about your minimum weight and then you start putting weight on in bad areas like face love handles and back. If you are born a naturally small person weight doesnt usually distibutre the places you want it, but its up to you to find out that. Im gonna do some weight training so I can be stronger and curvier plus build up the areas I want to be bigger like my legs and calfs. If I just ate food it wouldnt do this as Id just end up with a flabby belly, double chin and ok/slim legs. Which does happen a lot to people all around me who put on weight who previously had petite figures:( . Of course you could be one of those lucky skinny people who puts weight on in a pear shape... Author Touche
Well the 10 pounds that I gained last year went to my boobs, thighs, hips, butt and stomach. I noticed a difference in my upper arms too but not forearms and nothing below the knee. Truthfully, I don't care WHERE it goes (except stomach, don't want much more there) I just need 8 to 10 more pounds. I'm not pear shaped. I have your basic hourglass figure but with skinny arms and legs. That's where I REALLY want to put on the weight. For the most part, I'm happy with my torso now. Not ready to start workout until I gain more weight.
loveheart59
I think the best way to support each other is to have a weigh in every week on the same day. Aiming to gain at least 1lb per week. Everyone who thinks this a good Idea should put their height and weight on here then we can meet up next week and see whats changed or support each other if it hasnt! Height:5ft 3.5" Weight: 8st exactly Aims: To put on 6-7lbs
CaliGuy
Hmm, well, weight gain and weight loss is directly proportional to calorie intake. If you eat more calories than you burn, you will gain weight regardless of what you eat. If you eat less calories than you burn, you will lose weight, regardless of what you eat. I lift weights, take amino acids and protein shakes. I'm putting on muscle, but not fat. Another good idea to increase your metabolism is to eat 5 small meals a day instead of three bigger ones. As long as your body always has food available then it will be less likely to go into starvation mode. If you want to gain weight, less cardio, more weights. If you want to lose weight, less weights, more cardio. Pretty simple method but persistence is the key. Never miss a workout and stick to it. I'm seeing some very good results after a couple years of working out regularly. I'm in better shape now than I was when I was 18.
scobro
If you eat more calories than you burn, you will gain weight regardless of what you eat. If you eat less calories than you burn, you will lose weight, regardless of what you eat. This is not really true because not all calories are equal. If I eat 2200 calories a day of lean protien, whole grain carbs and esential fats for a year and you eat 2200 calories of pizza, ice cream and cookies for a year who is going to look in better condition at the end of the year. This theory does not take into consideration blood sugar spikes or insulin production which effects the hormone glucagon, which is the hormone responsible for releasing fat from the adipose cells into the bloodstream to be transpoted to be burned. I see the point but technically it's not as simple as that. There are other factors involved.
