puffy
I want to dye my hair, not with a permanent color, just something that will stay for a couple of weeks. It's the second time I do it, the first time is maybe 10 years ago, so I'm not really up to date with this stuff. Is there anything that I should pay attention too? And could someone offer me any tips or tricks? My hair is black and I'm going to give it a blueish tint. I'm excited!
Basic
Are you male or female? If you're a male then I ask what are you trying to accomplish? Female, have fun. I'm no expert on Hair dye, but black with blue tint sounds unique.
TeaCooler
don't colour your hair unless you're prepared to do it for the rest of your life.
Author puffy
Well, thanks for the helpful advices.
littlekitty
Make sure you go for a SEMI-permanent, rather than a permanent. This means it fades/washes out in 8-12 weeks. A permanent will require GROWING out. Adding a blue tint could actually probably be done very cheaply with an even less permanent die. They do little sachets of dye cheaply in the UK with those types of tints that wash out in say 2 weeks. Kind of teenager/younger market. So ok for school holidays etc. The only recommendation I have is always think about what you're doing. I have naturally light brown hair. I dyed my dark brown, accidentally picked up a permanent and am now paying the price trying to get my hair back to its natural colour via regular highlights that are close to my colour so as the toner fades, my natural colour comes through. Hard work though!!
Author puffy
Hi littlekitty, thanks for your post. The color I chose is a semi-permanent one. It's supposed to stay for 24 hair washings. I'm not that worried that the color will be too intense, I'm rather concerned that with my black hair I won't see that much of a change... littlekitty
Ok! Well, my sister has virtually black hair, and she often uses red and blue tints. I think they generally come out really well. It's more that you catch the blue tones in different light and as the hair moves. So it generally is fairly subtle, but still noticable and looks good! I'd give it a shot. It won't turn your hair completely blue, and if you don't think it shows enough, you can try something else next time. Of course, for the best results, first time... a hairdresser is always recommended! But that wouldn't be as much fun!!
blind_otter
I have black black hair. Asian black hair, actually, but the strand's arent' as thick, because my Dad is white. I have to go for violent or burgundy to bring out color in my face. Otherwise I look dead and yellowish. Depending on your skin tone, the bluish may be a bit much. Make sure to do a test patch on the back of your head near your neck so you can see what your complexion looks like with those undertones. Otherwise you could be stuck looking mildly ill for the next few weeks.
Author puffy
Ok, sounds good! Will the color dye my scalp as well? And when it rains, will it wash off, leaving me with color streaming down my face? (I saw it once happen to a girl who had purple hair and since then I have this fear that this will happen to people who dye their hair themselves. ) Will my hair break off? Will it dry out? Will it damage my hair? Should I wash my hair before dying it or not?
witabix
I was thinking of getting a tattoo on my head. A few rabbits running over it. I reckon from a distance they would look like hares, (Think about it)...................
littlekitty
Wit.....!!! Will the color dye my scalp as well? It might look like it at first. First proper wash (usually I do this the morning after I dyed it) after all will be gone, but try not to get it on face, ears, neck etc. And when it rains, will it wash off, leaving me with color streaming down my face? (I saw it once happen to a girl who had purple hair and since then I have this fear that this will happen to people who dye their hair themselves. ) No, that was probably a spray on colour. It will NOT happen! Will my hair break off? Will it dry out? Will it damage my hair? It may do, but unlikely since you're not stripping the hair to take OUT colour. If you get any adverse effects, get a deep conditioner. No problem. Should I wash my hair before dying it or not? For best results, no! Use on slighly lank hair!!

Author puffy
I dyed it and I hate it. The black is way too harsh for me. I had a nice soft black before and now it's such a cold strong black. How can I get rid of this color as soon as possible?
RubixCube28
I'm sorry to hear it diden't come out right for you.. But once you go dark black you wait a long ass time to go back.. Unless you wanna have it profeshionaly bleached out.. And that's riskey and expensive I once had that done.. And my hair stared falling out in strands in my hand..The only thing you can do really is wait and let it grow out.. I have naturaly light blond hair and I had put what said was semi perminet.. Black hair color in it for halloween one year it said it was supose.. To wash out in 24 shampoos yeah well like 3 years later.. I finaly got it out after 3 years of letting my hair grow.. And finaly paying like 100 bucks at a sallon to have it fixed.. Be carefull with your hair I'de just let it alone for a while like monthes.. And then go to a sallon and see if they can lighten it.. I found that there is a cool moose type dye that I think revlon makes now.. I'm not 100% sure but I think its called color impulse.. It's in a bright orange package you cant miss it in the hair dye isle.. It comes in all kinda funkey colors blue red orange lol.. But any ways IT IS actualy a NON perminent intense color moose.. Great product if you just want a bit of color and a change with out ruining your hair for years... Hope it all works out ok for ya..
