I woke up with my mind made.. I am GOING BACK TO COLLEGE.

I am sick of this job, I am tired of trying to find fulltime direct hire with benefits that pay more then $13/hr..

I woke up and knew what I was going to do and I am comfortable with it.

I don't care that I have $22,000 in student loans already.. Shyt--What the H>ll... If I can get more education and find a better job that will pay me $45,000 to $50,000 a year then I can afford a loan payment AND a new car payment...

I spoke to Charlie about it and he supports my decision.

So I have been researching Colleges and Universitys all moring.

Wow what a job. So many of them to explore here.

Trying to figure out what I want to go for is also another thing. Geeze, do I go for Office Management or Business Administrative Assistant?

I already have my A.A.S in Administrative Assistant.. Decisions, decisions. I have 2 months to figure this out and get all the transcripts and registration done. But first to choose a campus...

I've been searching for a different job for over a year and haven't found one yet.. Most Admin Asst positions are Executive level and they are looking for 5+ yrs experience. WTF---I can't get a break so I think I will go back to school...

Good for you padameckla :bunny: I'm a big proponent of post-secondary education so it always makes me happy to hear that someone is going to get their degree.

One thing I was confused about though is "Admin Asst positions are Executive level and they are looking for 5+ yrs experience.". Do you not have 5 years experience as an admin?

NO.. I can put together enough work I've done to make maybe 5 yrs of some of the duties of a Admin Asst but I can't get my foot in the door any place. Employers are looking at long term Exec. positions in a company. Not scattered experience.. My position is receptionist now with admin support duties.. I hate my job. I HATE ANSWERING THIS FRICKIN PHONE...

I use to love chatting on the phone--NOW I HATE IT. Even at home when my cell or the house phone ring it sends negative vibes through my body...

"SCREEEEEEAAAMMMMMMMMMMING.....internally"

I need to get a Administrative Assistant position in order to obtain experience and I don't even get to put together spreadsheets, I don't do scheduling, I don't make any travel or meeting arrangements. I just frickin answer phones and be everyones frickin gopher.

All grunt work.. I want a real job. I want to be productive, I want to create and complete jobs.

I cried weekly, sometimes daily, for the first 6 months of this job becuause i was so alone, lonely, no work, it was boring, I had a very very old computer that took forever for a page to come up and it would lock up on me. I finally have a new one but still I don't have much for work.

I hate this job and I'm not utilizing my skills, abilities and education.

Its time to move on... I think going for my B.A. is a good idea...

I don't understand...are you trying to go for another Associate's Degree? I wouldn't do that.

Have you considered temp work? Many of them turn into Direct Hire if you do a good job...they just don't tell you that. Great way to get your foot in the door and if you don't like the job, just complete the assignement and try the next assignement. I'd give serious consideration to this.

I think unless you go for a Bachelor's degree (and sorry if I misunderstood here) you're wasting your time going after another Associate'd Degree.

There are a lot of great programs that allow you to get your bachelor's degree while working. At least in business administration. Good for you, pada!

I already have a A.A.S. if I went for Busniness Administration Assistant or Office Manager those are B.A's..

NO I will not do TEMP work.. I have a child that I support and I need the fulltime guarentee of 40 hours a week and the guarentee of the job. I need insurance benefits within at least 30 days of hire also... I can't settle for less. NO WAY..

I do not know your academic background but getting a BS does open up different doors and issues.

Instead of an A.A.S in another area, I would suggest a Bachelors of Science (or Arts) in Business Administration. It opens different kinds of doors, ie. office manager, accountant, and general management.

I understand. Many of the temp agencies DO offer insurance right away I believe. But anyway, I'd go for the Office Manager degree. I never even knew they had a Bachelor's for that. But since you say there is such a thing, I'd go for that versus the Assistant one. You WANT to position yourself for management in order to get the highter paying jobs otherwise you will end up in the same old dead end job of Administrative Assistant.

a bachelors in accounting is very hot now a days.

NOPE.. not for this chick.. I have dyslexia in math. Certifiably. I kbnow the program (functions) do it all for you but numbers confuse me and I have a hard time concentrating when they get in my head... I like basic math but it fumbles my brain and it takes me a bit to gather my senses.

You should see me when I am working on my checkbook. I can't switch gears and it also takes me about 2-3 hours just to complete one monthly statement.

I am a helper and a doer in nature so its best if I remain in the busniness area that deals with people and stuff not numbers..

Acctg, legal and medical are strong areas to expand education on but none of them are good for me..

I was looking into social services but the pay is lower then admin asst. so I ruled that out.

Awesome Pada. My wife is doing the same and will have her Bachlors in 2 more years. She was able to transfer some credits from her 2 years in college when she was younger, so she only need like 98 more to get a 4 year degree. 8 week class every 8 weeks for the next 2 years. Not bad at all.

try this place(link below) they have a school in Mn/StPl. they also have online courses with mininal actual class time invovled. Pheonix along with Ottawa Universities are geared toward people like you. Older working people who want to finish school, but maintain there family/work life.

GOOD LUCK

Thanks, Most of my credits will transfer into Concordia College. I was researching to see what they have to offer. This is where my advisor wanted me to go upon my graduation. I told her no and she really tried to encourage me.. She told me that she doesn't advise her students to go on very often but she said she seen my determination and willingness to help others. She said my values and morals would be good in a Office Management position and she felt I would be a excellent person to go forward. She said its not about how smart I am with the books. She said its how you think, how you rationalize, your morals and values that will work in an office enviroment. She said I could do the work but the person is what is most important in this field...

So here I go. 3 yrs later... She would be joyful if she heard of what I am chosing to do..

I could go to any SCSU college and most of my credits would transfer. I know there are certain colleges that won't recognized certain credits. So I want to be sure to get into one that will.. I would hate to have to redo a bunch of classes that I have already taken that are in the same area of study.

yes it is.

But my wife choose Ottawa University which is similar to Phoenix in which it has online course too, but also has classroom studies. The program my wife is in was class based and luckily the campus is just a few miles away, but some classes can be online, but she prefers the interaction of the classroom. Plus all her classes are at ngiht and most people in them are her age too.
