JadeStar
Wasn't real sure where to put this. Anyway I have had a earache for sometimes now. Is it possible to have a earache from wax buildup? When I was sick a few months ago, and the doc looked into my ears, she didn't mention a thing about alot of wax, nor did she see anything unsual. However, still beeen having a earache for sometime now. Like a dull ache, and its not all the time, but every so often I will have a little pain in it. What could be causing the problem? Shyguy86
An ear infection would do that. I had one a couple of years ago but it was more of a sharp stinging pain that intensified when you put pressure on your ear. I would go back to the doctor and see if he notices anything out of the ordinary. If you're concerned that it may be wax build up, than get out the ol' Q-tip and have at 'er. Good luck
Author JadeStar
I have had right much sinus draining too, and noticed one day as I was coming out of the grocery store, all of a sudden my hearing went for a few minutes. You know how sometimes you can swallow real hard and make it pop and it seems fine? Well, I tried that, but didn't work and when I spoke I could hear my voice and it sounded like I was in a tunnel. Real hollow like. I could actually hear fluid rumbling around. It finally went back to normal later that day. Jade
SmoochieFace
Do you have any facial swelling along with your earache? I have had ear infections that were so bad one side of my face would swell and be very tender.
blind_otter
Do you have allergies? If you stay congested for too long all that gook is a happy breeding ground for bacteria.
Author JadeStar
Smoochie, no I don't have any facial swelling, but have heard of people that have and its not pretty. blind, yes I have allergies and sinus problems. I keep that draining crap it seems. I have had this though for a few months. Could an infection last that long without it getting worse? I would think if it were an infection though I would have more things going on, such as maybe a fever, or really bad pain, and its not bad, but I can tell whatever it is, is there. blind_otter
My Dad had an infection inside his sinus cavity for like 6 years. He had borken his nose several times and all the scar tissue made a lovely matrix for the bacteria to grow on. He had to have surgery - a nosejob basically - to break through all the scar tissue. Do you take allergy meds? They should be drying up your mucous membranes. That's really what they are great for - drying out the mucous so you don't get an infection from stagnant gook inside your sinuses.
Author JadeStar
I take Zyrtec for my allergies. I also smoke, I know thats probably not a smart idea for lots of reasons, one being people with allergies shouldn't smoke either. I sometimes wonder if that plays a role in it as well. I have heard that people who do smoke, usually keep more sinus drainage than people who don't. Jade
blind_otter
I smoke cigarettes and every morning in the shower I spend like 10 minuts hocking up loogies. The steam helps. Otherwise I feel post nasal drip ALL DAY LONG and it's sooooooo annoying. I get upper respiratory stuff all the time, I think my drainage goes into my lungs and causes infections there. Ain't it great to be a smoker? I have to buy cartons before I go on vacation. I feel like a crackhead.

The thing is I could probably help clear up half the crap I have if I quit smoking, which is on my to do list btw. Jade
blind_otter
Have you heard of a neti pot? It's supposed to use saline solution to rinse out the nasal passages. Hippies use it - my BF told me about it. Also ear candeling. That may help -- it's a big HUGE wax cone you put up to your ear and light, the shape of the cone and the heat draws out the wax. I've done that before (another hippie trick) and I actually could hear better afterwards, talk about ear gunk. you can get those things at a healthfood store.

Yeah I have heard of the neti pot, might have to check it out. I didn't know about the ear candeling though. I heard to if you take some oil, I can't remember what kind, its a particular kind, anway you put a drop or two in each ear, put cotton in your ears to keep the oil from leaking out, then lay down for the night, get up ther next morning and when you take the cotton out, all the wax is supossed to just fall out. Might need to try that too. Jade
Guest
Or you could just go to a doctor. You don't want to mess around if it's an infection. And whatever you do, do NOT stick a Q tip in and dig. People break their eardrums that way!
