JadeStar
My immune system must be low or something! Just a little over a month ago, I had strep for the first time ever. They put me on an antibiotic, which ended up me spending the next 2-3 weeks trying to get the yeastie boys to move out from the lovely penicialln that made them move in in the first place. Now here I am again feeling the exact same way I did before I had strep throat. The only difference is this time I have a really bad cough, and I'm able to get some of that mess up, but its green/brown:sick: so I'm sure thats a sure fire sign of infection! I have an appointment here shortly..again! This is getting old. I hope and pray they don't put me on an antibiotic that contains penicillan, or I will have the same problem I had last time and it was a b*tch to get rid of. Why me?! GRRRR this is the sickest I ever been. About 2 or 3 years ago is when I started picking crap up others had. It used to be that if my kids or husband got sick, whatever they had would just by-pass me, well not anymore. I was going to put this in the rants section, but figured since it was health related they would move it here anyway. I'm such a big baby! Wah! Jade
blind_otter
Bummer JS. Have you thought about cutting out dairy for a bit? It can increase phlegm production. Maybe for a week or two?
Author JadeStar
Bummer JS. Have you thought about cutting out dairy for a bit? It can increase phlegm production. Maybe for a week or two? I don't even eat alot of dairy blind. Hubby worries about my lack of dairy, bless him, he says when I'm older I'll be one of these little old ladies that looks like the hunchback because of the lack of calicum I don't get. Thats my fault though. I have been eating some yogurt right regular ever since I had the lovely Y. Bet I'll need to eat more if they put me on that damn penicillan. Looks like they could give me something else. Jade
justagirliegirl
Just wondering if you smoke or anyone around you does? I found that all my respiratory problems went away when I stopped being around smokers.

Author JadeStar
Just wondering if you smoke or anyone around you does? I found that all my respiratory problems went away when I stopped being around smokers. Yeppers I smoke. And thats probably a good part of the problem. Started smoking when I was 17 here I am at 35, and to this day still get b*tched out by my mother for it. I talked with her earlier and she had something smart to say about it. You know theres some things you just don't say. I think shes just ticked (and probably good reason) becasue she feels If I don't quit it might be to late or something. I heard that the older you get the immune system can go down some and when you smoke that makes the immune system weaker there fore making it harder to fight infections off. *Sigh* I really need to quit. littlekitty
Go to your local health food shop and get some echinacea. It's improves the bodies immune system and helps you fight infections. It should help you get over this sickly period combined with anything you need for the infections.

Jade Yep I think you have found the problem. You are at the age where it really starts to catch up with you. I smoked for quite a few years and quit in my late 20s. It seems I always had some sort of bronchitis or something. My ex husband smoked a lot and I still had some minor problems and was sick more often just from all the 2nd hand smoke. After I moved out, all of it went away. I feel so much better healthwise overall. So yeah regardless of what your mother says or anyone else, make a promise to yourself to quit and I promise you won't regret it plus all the money you will save. Author JadeStar
I just need to bite the bullet and quit. I have been thinking long and hard about it, but see theres the difference, I have been thinking about not doing it, LOL! OK all off to the doc, I'll let you know what they say this time. Guest
After my mom died, I got a whole bunch of infections. Started taking mulitvitamins to build up my immunity. I've been taking them ever since and noticed a real change in both my immunity and my ability to get over colds and such when I did get them. But absolutely stop smoking. You sound like my dad who had chronic bronchitis because of smoking - which gradually became COPD. Quitting is the most important thing you can do for your health.
Author JadeStar
Ok just got back. No strep this time, but I do have bronchitis! So I'm on 4 days worth of Z-Pak, plus she wants me to use an inhaler for a few days. I have never used one of those before. I was so glad to know that Z-Pak doesn't contain penicillan that way no more yeastie boys will arrive. However the doc looked at me and said any antibiotic can cause a yeast infection, it doesn't just have to be ones that contain penicillian. I was like, WTF? Holy crapola and here I was thinking it was just ones that contained the Pen! She said load up on the yogurt with live cultures etc, and even told me it might be to my benefit to get some acidolpilus tablets as well. Just incase this one were to effect me the same as the last one. Gotta head em off now, I anit putting up with that mess no more! Ok going to lay down. Jade
Guest
Hiya, The best thing for immune system and i swear by it is vit C. You can actually take up to 15g (and highly recommended in times of low immunity) a day. Recommend usually a Blackmores powder formula which you can add to orange or apple juice. Its a little bitter but works great. Vit C is not only fights for your immune system but is also a cell regenerator, so all the damage that has occurred from your infection will be replaced by new cells with the added help from Vit C. The only thing is that if it is too much Vit C for your body then you might get the runs =( Not fun but definately better then being sick......if that happens just use less the next day =) Good luck!
