Does anyone know about PVC's?

Recommended Posts

I was diagnosed with PVC's at 17, throughout the years they were few and far between. However in the last 3 years it seems a day doesn't go by that I don't spend time when dealing with this thumping in my chest.

Btw.. PVC is Premature Ventricular Complex. a premature firing of the heart in simple terms.. feels like a skipped beat.

What I have read is that it is not a serious condition however the medication to control them is and could be life threatening. NO I am not opting for that in any form.

My question is, I also read that it could be a signal to an uderlying Heart Disease. I have had an ultrasound, EKG's and many other forms of tests.

Anyone else have these misfirings and how do you cope with them..?

Kinda scary at times, feels odd and you are not sure if you are bout to have a heart attack or what.. I have actually went to the hospital thinking I was. The doctor was a turd.. gave me pain pills and sent me home.. UHHHH hey Doc... I didn't break a leg here..

Thanks in advance for any info.. or advice..

Hey! Well, I'm a paramedic, and I also work at a hospital watching heart monitors. So I know quite a bit about PVC's! Here's the kicker; almost EVERYONE throws an occasional PVC from time to time. It's perfectly normal. It's when they become frequent that it can become a problem. Yes, medications prescribed for heart problems can be dangerous, but the ramifications for NOT taking prescribed medications can be much worse. I.E. - worsened heart conditions, a heart attack, or even sudden cardiac arrest! If you haven't been to see a cardiologist yet, I would recommend it. If you ARE prescribed medication, I'd take it. It's perfectly okay to question your doctor about what medications he/she is putting you on and why, and yes - heart medications can be dangerous if abused...but ANY medication can be dangerous if abused, right down to normal things like Motrin or Tylenol! So just take the correct dosage at the correct time, and you'll be fine!

I am a nurse and I must tell you that you NEED to take the medication. The benefits well out weigh the risks here. Take the medicine as directed and see your doctor regularly....sounds like a commercial..lol.
