I need Wedding/Shower gift ideas!!!

Recommended Posts

Two of my best friends are getting married in May. I've got a shower to go to next month. I need gift ideas! I don't want to get them useless junk- they have a smallish apt and don't need anymore. Their registry is pretty dull, and not really that big for all the people going to their wedding, so I wanted to get them something not on it and leave what's there to relatives and aquaintances who don't know them as well as I do. They're not fancy people, they don't pursue luxuries, they don't cook much, and they are not hung up on coordinated decor or stuff like that.

The shower is an "hour" shower for the bride- you choose an hour of the day and buy a gift that could be used at that hour (ex. martini glasses for the post-work 5pm martini). I have NO ideas.

For the wedding I have considered getting them a very nice blanket or two- we live in a cold climate and it seems like you always end up accumulating cruddy, cheap, or hand-me-down blankets over the years because its not something you think to buy. But I'd like other ideas as well.

What would y'all buy or want for a wedding gift?

Beauty products?

There's this lovely fragrance called "Soap and Water" by philosophy. It smells like a clean white t-shirt.

Coffee? I say this because I am horribly addicted to coffee and I dream about it.

I've been thinking about a gift basket of little stuff-

but this girl isn't much into pampering other than your basics and people have given her TONS of coffee of over her last two birthdays and christmas.

I had the idea of buying them a case of wine from this year as a wedding gift, but since they are getting married in May the vintages haven't come out yet!!! So that will probably be a Christmas gift.

I got her a nice corkscrew for her last birthday and they have all the bar accessories they need as well.

A gift basket sounds nice but not with coffe how about some sexual things for the wedding night. You could put a gift basket of massage oils and whip cream ,chocolate ,condoms etc.. You getting the picture . :o

sex toys? maybe? I'm reaching here. I didn't have a shower and when I got married I asked people to donate to charities in my name. Heck -- it's tax dedictible.

I say stick to the registry. If she runs out of items, she will just have to add more. Besides, buying something on the registry is similar to giving a gift certificate at that store.

Haha- ok, most of this stuff is definetly for the bachelorette party- y'know, the party that WON'T have the very catholic grandmother, who doesn't know my two friends have been living together for years, present.

Think innocent!

hee ... honey, some of them Catholic grannies have the dirtiest minds!

serious gifts: the best gift I got was from my sister for high school graduation were a pair of bath sheets – you know, the oversized towels. I've had them 20 years and I love them because they cover all of me. I've added another half-dozen to that pair and overnight guests love them as well because they're so big and so practical. And they're something the newlyweds will get a lot of good use from.
