What Should I Do?!

My girlfriend and I have only been together for three weeks, but we seem to have something very special together. I will turn 21 in November, and she just turned 18 in August. I go back up to school on the 20th of this month, and I go to school in Bellingham, WA which is 90 miles North of Seattle. We want to stay together, but I have to get a job when I go to school, and she will be working down here in Portland to save up some money to start affording school at P.C.C. or somewhere. We both want to stay together, but I'll be entering a whole new world when I turn 21, and if I'm working, I don't know how often we'll be able to see each other. Should we try to stay toether and see what happens? Or should we have an open relationship when I'm at school to see other people? Please help, I'm confused.

This sounds like one of those decisions that will have to be based on mutual feelings, common sense and discussion. Are you happy in the relationship? It sounds like if you are also considering an open relationship once you are further away, that using "I won't have enough time" is sort of a cop out. Don't let yourself skip around the real issues. I understand your situation very well, i've been through something similiar and I sympathize. I guess my best advice would just be to look at your relationship carefully, first of all decide if it's something you want to continue, and if your answer is yes, there *are* ways it will work out. It may not be easy all the time, but it is possible. Above all though, talk to your girlfriend about the whole situation. And remember, if you do decide to end things, do your best to end them on good terms. You never know what will happen in the future, maybe circumstances will change and you will have your chance to be together. Don't let yourself make excuses, and be honest with her. Take care, bonne chance.
