I make it a point to order crab rangoon at every chinese food place.

But yet, the type of chinese food they serve in those restaurants is not really authentic chinese cuisine, it's fatty fatty fat fat. And full of sodium and sugar, for american palates. I never ate greasy fried rice when I was growing up. The fried rice my mom makes is very different. And better. And you can pretty much put anything in it.

Yeah that's soooo true. As far as I'm aware what we eat is a Chinese Cuisine invented and made for the US/UK palate.... nothing like authentic.

I don't think many people realise that though. Isn't authentic Chinese cuisine very healthy and quite light by comparision?

The food I grew up eating was. Very little oil. Like with curries, she covers the meat with water or broth and cooks it down without using any oil.

I went there for breakfast on Sunday and had boiled tofu and tomato soup with cilantro, white rice, and stir-fried pork with bok choi and hot peppers with ffermented fish sauce...yum. Breakfast of champions.

The thing is I'm a good cook too. And I'm crazy. maybe we should conduct a research study on the correlation between cooking and mental instability.

real chinese food that poeple in china eat is mostly vegetables and rice with little to no fat. very little meat and seafood.

this is the antithesis of the average american diet where everything is deep fried with tons of meat and huge serving sizes.

True, the real stuff, goto dim sum and you will see the closer to real stuff.

I'm asian and eat this "stuff" almost everyday! Now need to get rid of msg, high fructose corn syrup, and smaller portions. Food wise of course...

I almost never eat fast food- I quit it early in my teens mainly when I began to realize how devoid of nutrition it was. I've always carried about 20lb more than I would like to, so that was a motivation as well. Now, I only eat it when nothing else is available, which might translate to half a dozen times a year.

BUT every time I walk by BK/McDs/etc in the mall or smell it coming from a restaurant the cravings are incredible! Like far more attracting than normal food.

So I gotta wonder what's in this stuff that I can still crave it so much after so many years! Even when I tell myself it's more processed than the packaging they wrap it in.

What do y'all think about it? Is it a conspiracy, haha?

I am a former addict myself. I made a resolution this year to eat healthier and exercise and I have been doing it. I have only had fast food twice this year. I don't miss it at all.

I think that its just a combination of grease, salt and fats that makes us crave it because it does smell mighty fine at times.
