Losing weight aftre baby

Hello! Since I've had my son 15 months ago, I just can't seem to shed those pesky lbs.!! I was 127 when I first got pregnant, and weighed like 156 or something when he was born (I am 5'2). Now I am back down to 134 and I want to be the wieght I was to begin with. My S/O is a vegetarian, and does not add any sodium to his diet as low blood pressure runs in his genetics, so we have a pretty healthy eating lifestyle. (I cook all the meals so I don't add any salt) I try not to use alot of oils, we don't ever cook any fried foods, I try to only use fresh produce, and if I use canned I get low sodium. We eat out about once every 2 weeks or less. We hardly ever buy snacks like chips and candy and pretzals, we snack on fruit. So I know I'm not getting too much fat in my diet, but my wieght just keeps hanging around. I can't excersie like i want because I have scoliosis and it doesn't take much to get my back out of whack.

 

Before baby, I could lose weight so easily, now it seems like my body just holds on to its weight.

 

Any suggestions on how to shed the rest of the baby weight?

My sister has severe scoliosis, and wore a back brace for 2 years, 23 hours a day, and is quite active with two toddlers and a baby on the way. She jogs (altho #3 is due in June, so not any more, haha), does yoga, and does almost all the work on their property (except fixing the cars).

 

You may benefit from talking to a personal trainer about exercises specifically for people with scoliosis, I believe they highly recommend weight bearing exercises and weight lifting? My sister did intensive physical therapy training to strengthen her back muscles.

 

Do you breast feed? Both my sisters breast fed for 1-3 years with each baby, and not only did it delay ovulation (easy birth control) - they both ended up weighing less than they did in high school.

ohhh that wigs me out for some reason..... b feeding a 3 yr old.

:eek: :eek: OMG i can't even imagine having anymore kids!! Since I've had my son, my back is 10 times worse. Some days its so bad I have to just collapse on the floor!! Your sis is a very strong women!!

I tried to breast feed, but I had inverted nipples and he couldn't seem to latch on. I also wasn't producing enough milk, so after a week he gave up on me. I know a few people who breastfed and lost all they're weight, I wish it would have worked out for me.

Yeah she is, it's intimidating. She's one of those "together" women.

check out internet sites, google scoliosis and physical therapy exercises. They have instructions and pictures on many pages. My sis bought a resistance band, and some free weights - it wasn't that expensive. Also check out pilates, it's a form of strengthening exercise that ballet dancers do. I did ballet for many years, and I love pilates. I've even grown 1/4 of an inch since I started! It concentrates on core muscles, and the muscles of the back, to improve posture.

That sucks (no pun intended, ha ha). The same sister is a lactation consultant and she visits ladies all the time to coach them with nursing.

Damn blind, ur sis is intimidating me :lmao: :lmao: and I don't even know her!!

 

I'll check online then, thanks!! I know there are some special exercises for people w/scoliosis.

yea, i would defineately talk to a Physical Therapist. My Fiance had the "surgery" (6" Ti rod in her lower spine) 5 years ago and is still getting back in the swing of things. She has special exercises that she does to help build up the muscles. Other then that, swimming, aqua-jogging and water aerobics would help alot. Very low imapact, very even stresses across the body and even support. Just do what you can.

 

If it makes you feel better, you burn more fat at lower heart rates. So walking a few miles will burn more fat then sprinting 5 miles.

I want that surgery too!! The Dr. that diagnosed me wanted me to have it done when I was 13 but I was terrified. I wish I would have now, its just i heard you can't arch your back and that would be devastating to my bedroom life ;)

believe me, you can still arch your back.....

 

It might also depend on where they have to put the rod, but hers is in the lowest part of her back, so it doesn't affect her flexibility that much.

 

It is quite an ordeal though. 5 years later she is still recovering. You should hear her horror stories of living off morphine and Vikoden for almost a full year just to take the edge off and her having to give it up and suck it up because it was making her too sick to eat. She lost like 20 lbs in a few weeks from it. Now she can't tollerate ANY pain killers. They all make her violently ill or just plain don't work.

Hmm.. Looks I'd be killing 2 birds w/one stone. I am allergice to vikodin. Why was she on pain killers was it painful even after the surgery? Is she happy she got it done or is it worse? I wish I could find a support group or a forum for people who have had it done
