I used to like the Gospel of Mark the best, because I was named after it, but after reading parts of Judas and seeing the National Geographic special I'm sold. It's my favorite gospel. From a historical standpoint I do find the Gnostic gospels extremely interesting. And this is one of the more interesting Gnostic gospels. Turning Judas into the protagonist seems like a really sophisticated move for 2nd century Christians. It totally makes sense if you look at it through the Gnostic worldview. If the material world is evil and insignificant then the one who delivers Jesus from the material world is the hero. Have any of you read the gnostic gospel where Jesus isn't crucified, but is off in the distance laughing while they crucify Simon of Cyrene? Does anybody remember the name of that one? I'm going to have to get of this heartbreak forum and reread that tonight, it being Easter Weekend and all. I'm sure it's on the internet somewhere. I think that was the point of the ancient "mysteries". The deeper meaning was only explained to those who were ready for it. I haven't read the judas gospel, but it could be a load of crap for all we know. Just as there are religious nuts around today, there probably was 1000+ years ago.
