the_alchemyst
Oh my. It's 5.30 AM here. I didn't sleep again. Oh. My. Yes, it's true that I have had bad sleeping patterns since waaay back when I was *cough* young--16 or so. I usually go to bed at around 2-3 AM and wake up at around 8-9 AM. It's pretty much the same on the weekends, too. It sucks! But what sucks more is that lately it has been getting worse. Yes, of course I attribute most of it to the break-up, but it's just that other areas in my life are such crap right now, that it all adds up, and christ. Lately I have been sleeping about 2 hours each night . . . or none at all. This past week was just crazy. My eyes are all bloodshot it's not even funny. I want to sleep like a normal person . . . yeah, all nice and peacefully like I used to when he called me to say goodnight. Oh, poo. I'm sad again. And tired. And sleepy. But I have school in 3 hours. Oh well. There's always later tonight. Anyone else have problems sleeping?
blind_otter
I used to have a lot of problems but mostly I worked on my sleep hygiene (the behaviors you associate with sleepy time) and my schedule, and exercise, and diet, and I no longer have trouble. Don't drink caffiene within 6 hours before bed. Drink plenty of water. Wake up and lay down for bed at the same times - if you can't sleep get up and remove yourself from the sleeping area so you don't associate it with waking behaviors. Have certain rituals you go through before sleep - I brush my teeth, wash my face, and brush my hair in that order, every night. Get exercise early in the day, and exposure to direct sunlight at least 30 min a day. Don't do anything that energizes or activates your body or mind before bed. So don't study right before bed, or watch a scarey movie. Relax, let your body unwind. Try breathing exercises
KittenMoon
A- when I think I'm going to have trouble sleeping I take a quarter dose of Tylenol PM. Like I literally cut one pill in half, when the dosage is two pills. It simply gives me the kick to fall asleep and then stay asleep. If you're more into natural stuff try some herbal tea with the following ingredients: valerian, chamomile, or passion flower. I have read you can get valerian supplements as well now. Clair
I'm not taking any caffeine anymore, I think that helps a lot. I drink chamomile tea throughout the day. I also cannot fall asleep right away, then I get up after 10 minutes and do something until I get tired, later lay down with an idea that I will get up again 10 min later if I don't fall asleep. Usually I don't get up.
