whichwayisup
It's been on my mind for a while now, to quit smoking. I like smoking and I keep saying, "When I stop liking smoking I'm going to quit..." Yeah right! That day isn't going to come...But I am 35 years old, it's time to quit. I don't want to smoke forever and I know what could be instore for me if I don't quit. Zyban is an option for me, but to be honest, I'm not one to take meds (excluding advil/tylenol), especially ones that change the chemistry in your head! And I hear that Zyban is sort of a slight anti-depressant (Like wellburtrin) so that kind of freaks me out abit. What I'd like to know about are the side effects. Sleepness nights, bad dreams, jitters, anything...I've had a couple of friends who had to stop taking Zyban and afew were fine, had no problems. What are your experiences in taking Zyban? Thanks in advance.
blind_otter
I cold turkied it, WWIU. I was sucking on homeopathic pills and then I gave up because it seemed like those were pissing me off even more. When I was in college I did wellbutrin (same thing as zyban) to quit smoking and it worked, but in a weird way. I still craved cigarettes because I was used to the physical act of smoking, but whenever I smoked a cig I felt grossed out and unsatisfied. IMO, there's no easy way. Just ways to encourage you to be able to deal with the s***tiness of nicotine withdrawal. As the boy scouts say, BE PREPARED.
Author whichwayisup
Thanks. You know, you're inspirational now as you've stopped smoking, and I'm sure it's so tempting to start up again with everything going on in your life right now... I hope somehow I find the strength to DO this...And I think I am going to try with the Nicorette gum or just do it cold turkey...HA, or try that gross jar trick. Fill it up with water, then throw my finished cigs in the jar. Open the lid and sniff it if I feel like one - I'm sure it's enough to put me off! I know afew people who have tried that way and it worked. Yet, I know it all comes down to willpower and the desire to stop...I'm getting closer...

Author whichwayisup
A_C is the boss!! So, get that cute ass of yours to the corner store and buy some! I think my fear is letting the nicfits take over and drive me nuts! I know my hubby will be the one who will be putting up with my grumpy mood...I remember last time I tried to quit - It was baaaaad...I've never felt so much anger either! Ha, I told him too that he better not eat apples around me. (I can't stand the way he eats them on a good day, so add in some PMS and a nicfit, he'll make me crazy)
blind_otter
Dude I had horrific nic fits. I even threw my shoe at a door and dumped my clean laundry all over the floor, on top of my cat, in a fit. He was sleeping in the goddamn clean laundry and it was ALL HAIRY. Then I lectured him but he was uninterested and crawled inside a pillowcase to go to sleep. At which point the nic fit ended because he looked so damn cute in that pillowcase, even though I did momentarily think about drop kicking him.
Author whichwayisup
That's too funny! Imagine what the poor thing would've said if it was able to talk! Ha, pets talking...That's another thread to start eh! I've been known to hoof things across the room when I get really pissed off. The nicfits are probably going to be worse than PMS. I know it!
