My recent break-up has shown me that I am way more mature emotionally than my exbf. Everyone has realized this, probably long before me.

I was having a discussion with a friend, and we concluded that women maturing faster emotionally must have to do with physicality- we need to make more mature decisions earlier because we are able to bear children early into our years and need to protect our young. Men, on the other hand, don't need maturity to be sperm donors. They can follow later on, i.e. when they feel the desire to "settle down".

Would you agree with this?

On another note, I asked my friend, "well, how does this relate to your be?" She answered "well, I think he's the exception to the rule." I didn't roll my eyes or anything, but she based it on the fact that his problems with his father forced him to mature earlier. So she might have something going there. Thoughts on this?

Does earlier responsibility = more mature males?

yes, I would. :p

I don't agree. I think some people are immature because they can be. I don't think it has anything to do with the orientation of your genetalia.

I disagree CG1927....many females are more mature than men of the same age. I think its because they HAVE to be. But that is just one more difference that attracts the sexes to each other.

I agree with what alpha said above.

I didn't mean this to be derogatory and all-encompassing. And I think it's pretty centralized to emotions.

If we were talking finances, for example, I'd be more inclined to agree that men mature faster.

Funny because while most of my guy friends are all living paycheck to paycheck, I managed to buy my first apartment all on my own by the age of 24.

Generalizations are called gross for a reason.

Ha, one of my favorite theories is that if one day they invent the pill against menopause this world will go down the toilet.

i don't think that there really is a right answer to this. Everyone seems to have their own version of what it means to be mature. just because a woman bears a child does not mean that she has become mature. Not all woman mature after giving birth to a child.

Just my 2 cents.

Of course they mature faster, That's why I date women much younger than me because women at my age are already talking about retirement funds as well as watching my checking account and making sure they get some money later on when they go buy some $300 Gucci sunglasses.

i tend to believe responsibility does influence maturity on some level for both sexes, but not entirely. but perhaps the basis for immaturity lies in the fact that some individuals just are because they can, and they might not be thinking 'ahead' at present. for some people, life is a lot easier being carefree and having less things to worry about, than say having responsibilities or making right(or wrong) decisions and learning from them VS making smart decisions.

But for males vs. women well thats an unusual debate. Perhaps this has more to do with the psychological development of the brain of the sexes.

Because men in general have been feminized and emasculated. We have a generation that is filled with men are grown children and have no idea how to takle care of themselves. I also think it is lack of male role models in men's lives. We have many men growing up fatherless and nobody was able to show them the ropes. That is why to this day I still say that leaving home at 17 was the best thing for me. I have always felt more mature than the women I dated and truthfully the majority of women want a men more mature than them.

OK, that's total bulls***. About half the women I know are better with money than about half the men I know. I believe that maturity is determined by nurture vs nature.

Exactly, because the majority of women are looking for someone to buy them Gucci sunglasses!

Not that but women are still attracted to strength and mature men are more strong.
