Latest thing you have learned about yourself

Recommended Posts

I have learned:

1. With age, that I have become almost entirely intolerant of adults who do not do what they say they are going to do. I used to be able to brush it off, but these days (barring any very serious reasons) they tend to be stricken from the book of Blackfrost after 2-3 offenses. I'm too old to be tolerant of flakes anymore. What ever happened to people being proud of honoring their promises, or being a Man of your Word.

2. That I can be a success regardless of the years of my father telling me I would be nothing in this life but a reject and bum

3. It's okay to be who I am (very much a quiet, loner type who enjoys his loner type hobbies like music and painting) and that I do not have to change myself into the type of A-type personalities that I am surrounded by at my job

4. Work / Life balance is actually a really good thing (i used to be all work all the time for 10 years - which I did love, but now realize how much I enjoy doing other things besides constantly working)

5. My daughter really is the greatest love of my life. My life would be shallow and empty without her.

Cheers

I dunno if its good or bad, but I seem to have grown some bigger balls lately at work. I've stood up for myself before, but not like I've had to lately at work and its sort of surprised me. I think I've finally (after many years in various jobs) reached my peak of stress.

Things I have learned about myself...

1. I'm not perfect. I'm human.

2. Getting drunk doesn't make me feel better.

3. I am patient. Awaiting the passage of time to feel better.

4. I can have compassion even for those who hurt me.

5. I respect myself more than those who hurt me wilfully.

6. I am my own life designer.

To accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change those things that I can.

I haven't gotten the wisdom to know the difference yet, though.

Candied-Heart

-- That I am quite emotionally and mentally strong. Sounds quite cliche. But I just needed a push to realise I can cope with the bad. I just need to focus on the important and the petty negatives in life that force themselves in can be dissolved. My mind is slowly becoming my friend, not an enemy.

-- That I try too hard to impress/please. I'm learning to control this to use it only for good, instead of appearing clingy or disruptive and controlling.. again with help of my positive mindframe.

I'm trying to 'find myself' currently..

I've found that I am sucessfull at just about everything I set my mind to .

I've also found that I'm not doing the thing my heart is set on because I'm afraid I'll fail.

I went to an AA meeting with a friend who was presenting a 10 year chip to one of his sponsees. I learned that I'm a volunteer, not a victim. I choose to be where I am, in the circumstances I'm in, not subject to them.

That's what I learned. I think it has strengthened me.

I learned that I am stronger than I thought I was. I can choose to do the right thing and appear rational and 'normal' while feeling all torn up inside.... I can stop myself when my thoughts turn to hate and anger. I can turn off the voices of despair from my heart.
