Tip O'Neal
I've been making friends with a beautiful waitress at a restaurant near my place. Last week I bought her a little bouquet at a market near by and she loved it! This Saturday I went in and chatted with her and got a tentative agreement to go for lunch on one of her days off. Everything was going well until I left her a substantial tip and she immediately became cold and distant. I'm afraid she thinks I was trying to buy her affections and has been offended. How should I attempt to salvage the situation?
Ed
Trying to carry on a meaningful conversation with someone while they are working is kind of hard to do. You'll know soon enough if she was truely offended by something you did. The best thing for you to do is see if you can get that lunch date. If she repeatedly turns you down and you feel like you just have to know you could ask her if she was offended by you in some way. That may be good for future reference but it probably won't get you a date. In the mean time, just stick to the customary 10-20% tip.
