ali0812
I just wanted to know if anyone had some good ideas for working out at home. I have an eliptical and a weight bench. I like the eliptical but it gets kind of boring to do everyday!! I do have videos but they get old too! What else can you do at home? I live on a busy street and so I can't go running out on my road. I just need ideas to keep it interesting so I don't lose motivation! Thanks for any help!!
1Gravity
Read a book while excercising? Go to the library and rent some different excercise tapes to keep the boredom down. I applaud your efforts at self improvement. Don't quit!!
westernxer
I've been working out at home for years... exercise ball, stationary bike, pull up bar, altus bands for resistance training. Also play sports occasionally. Also swim in the summer.
vi_pn_babe25
I love exercising at home, here's why: 1) it's cheaper than a gym membership 2) you can exercise whenever you want 3) you don't have guys staring at you or trying to pick you up(if you're a girl) I run on my treadmill everyday for an hour, I'm addicted honestly. I also jump rope-it works wonders, and for fun I workout to the carmen electra strip tease dvd. I love to stay fit and eat healthy, I might go to the extreme sometimes but I enjoy it. eyeswideshut
vi pn babe, i run everyday too. but on concrete. my knees are fine, but everyone keeps telling me i'll start aching one day. i am addicted too, can't not run. even in the rain, i'm out there with the umbrella and all. even in winter when i have bronchitis, i'm out there. not long, minimum 25 minutes. i wish i could get addicted to yoga, as it is excellent for the bod. and joints. what body type do you have? every thinks i look like a ballerina, but i'm a runner. i actually have back fat though now, because i am too lazy to get myself to a gym and i don't do weights anymore. any tips for back fat, and general torso fat? i've got a gold bikini to fit into this summer. lol:eek:
vi_pn_babe25
eyeswideshut- I need to start running outside because sometimes after awhile runnning on the treadmill gets a lil boring. But I listen to my ipod which helps, although it'd be cool if I had a tv right in front. Yah someone told me that since I run on the treadmill barefoot, I'll start getting knee problems, but I can't wear running shoes because it's uncomfortable, at least on the treadmill. But I'm literally obsessed with exercising an hour a day and eating healthy, my friends say I eat rabbit food lol but I eat a salad everyday, lots of veggies and fruits, and I have a bowl of special k cereal every morning. And I never eat fast food! You asked what my body type is, I'm 5'8" 115 lbs, so a lil on the skinny side and even though alot of people tell me I'm too skinny, but alot of it I get from my genes. You said you have some areas you want to work on, well I would suggest for the midsection-keep running like normal, even jump rope if possible, then start doing sit-ups. I've gotten my flat tummy just from doing all those, so I'm sure it would work for anyone. For your back-keep running, maybe even try push-ups. I've never tried yoga before but I'm sure it's relaxing! Well I hope what I said helped ya out a lil bit
Author ali0812
Thank you for all your input. Has anyone tried Hula hooping? Girls that I work with said they have heard that works really well on your waist. I would think that it does but I was wondering if anyone else has tried that.
starlet
I'm having this same thing right now - deciding whether or not to drop my gym membership and work out at home, somehow, just because my gym membership is so expensive, that I feel like...I dont' know it's got to be a waste of money somehow because I know that I can't be getting my money's worth out of the membership. I'm not going as often as I should be, because normally I'm so tired after work that I don't want to go to the gym, and I hate getting up early so I never want to build in the time to go before work. Argh! But, then I don't know any at home workouts that well, either. My coworker told me about something that she's trying out called Push - it's a DVD service, kind of like Netflix, that makes you customized work out DVDs to your level, and mails them to you every month - that you can specify the kind of stuff you want to work on and each one has a cardio session and all kinds of things like different trainers and starting levels, and it'll change over time as you improve. It actually sounds pretty cool! I think that I'm going to sign up and give it a try because if I can't motivate to get to the gym in the morning, surely I can motivate into the living room where the TV is, right? And then I could ditch the gym membership, which would be awesome, and would make my wallet happy because Push is a ton cheaper per month than my gym, she says it's only $25 a month! Has anybody tried this out or know anything about it?
catgirl1927
I tried working out at home for years, and hated it. It's so boring and unmotivating for me. I don't run because I have bad knees, and in Texas it gets too hot for the treadmill. I like the gym because there's tons of options for cardio, there's the free weights and weight machines I need for weight lifting, and because there's an energetic vibe there. starlet
I think I'm almost exactly the opposite - going to the gym is horrible for me - not only because it's so hard for me to actually make myself GO, but because there is always some perfect tiny size 4 girl who like, LIVES in the gym that makes me feel horrible about myself for not having started this sooner! I always feel like such a slacker surrounded by people at the gym! But, mostly, I like working out at home because I can really just fit it in when I have time - whether its in the morning or when I get home from work or whatever. And lately, I've been working longer hours a lot, so that's kind of crucial. I am worried about potential boredom, etc, which is why this Push program is appealing to me, I think, more than like renting a video from the store - my coworker is on her second disc now (you get one monthly) and it changes every month, as you get stronger (if you, like me, don't excercise much) or want to focus on a specific area. I just filled out the questionairre because my coworker is always talking about it- I figured I can try it out for a month at least - and it asked me what my most "problematic" area was, and if i was trying to get ready for an event or anything (wedding, summer generally, etc). It asked a lot of questions, which makes me actually hopeful that it will actually incorporate that into my program as it goes. I think it coudl turn out being very cool (and cheaper than my gym, which is another plus). It's http://www.push.tv - Check it out. Does anybody want to try it with me? Dawn82
Well I prefer working out at home. A. I can wear whatever i feel like even if that includes only boxers. B. I don't have to wait in line for any machine/rack/bench C. I can exercise whenever I want. D. I don't have to go/walk/drive to the gym. Yes there are less options for cardio but i keep myself occupied by watching TV/listening to music/audio books While i paddle away on the exercise bike. As far as weightlifting goes you do not need much gear to get a very good workout @ home. Exercise directory : http://exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html Shahar.
