There is hope

I wanted to share this so that others may know there is hope for a new and better life after abuse, this is my day of celebration:

Five years ago today the kids and I stepped off an airplane into the unknown.

Far away from 30 years of my life.

Far away from their baby lives.

Far away from our abuser.

We started a new life that wasn't without it's hiccups and hang-ups. A new life

that has given us more love than we could have ever imagined. A new life that is

filled with hope and joy and new beginnings and family that has nothing to do

with blood.

We are so very lucky. Thank you for being a part of our new lives.

Back home lives have changed, people have grown-up, grown-old and quite a few

have passed away. Some of whom we never had the chance to say good-bye to. We

have rejoiced afar at births and graduations. Laughed and cried. We have never

ever stopped loving though. Thank you to those who have been so far away for

understanding and supporting us as we began a new.

Life is sometimes scary, but if we are really lucky we are rewarded with things

that overcome our fears and give us a new outlook on life.

At this point, (the wee ones) have been in our new home for more than half their

lives. They have vague memories of green trees and fenced in yards, and swings

in the rain. With those vague memories are the ever fading memories of abuse and

nightmares that they lived through and didn't end when their little eyes opened

every morning.

Now they look forward to school, bikes, filling bird feeders, and yes, video

games, and war with foam swords. They know that Daddy isn't going to be ape over

the picture frame that isn't straight on the desk, and the loud sounds that

radiate from their daddy person is more often than not laughter or a

boisterously told story, and is not an angry temper tantrum.

25 years from now I will be typing this out saying that I have spent over half

my life here. Now there's a thought.

Yep, we've come a long way baby. Thanks for being along for the ride!
