Shopping & buying the same thing over & over!

Just a quick thought...was just in a great boutique...saw a cool black handbag in black with neat styling...now you just know, I am carrying a black handbag, almost same size...just different styling...new purse was $95/beach shop/very exclusive which translates to expensive....

So...I stopped myself from purchasing the new bag as here I am, already w/black bag...

I know it sounds stupid, but do we not do this all the time? Compulsive purchases of the same item, over & over, be it purses, shoes, clothes....UGH!!! I stopped myself from the purchase which was not easy; told myself to,"GET A GRIP"!!!

Thoughts?

they are the same ....yet different.

as long as you have the conscience knowledge of what you are doing, and can not buy....then you are ok.

But I just had to remove myself from the compulsive shopping gig...I kept thinking, hurricane season is coming (FL here), and the only thing I want to evacuate with is my children's baby pictures, water, bf, tuna & peanut butter....I just am not dealing with all the "stuff" .... After what happend in N.O., Texas, AL, it's not worth having a lot of things; they just complicate & weigh us down...that's how I solved today's almost impulse purchase!

I know that this is a total problem for me - especially if I am very upset about something or depressed. My first response is to buy myself something to make myself feel better, even if it's totally something that I don't really need. I know I have to stop doing that, try and be more financially responsible, but I don't really know how to do that.

I have a little xtra $ and I was thinking, well, I'll just take a look in this shop & boom...there it was.

But, I looked down at my own handbag and thought, ya know, I just do not need to buy this...I'm not depressed but certainly have not bought a new purse in, oh three years...yes, it'd be nice but no, I really don't need a black one....so I'd rather check TJ Maxx/Marshalls as they now get in all the pricey bags for less....if I really feel the urge, I'm still trying not to splurge!

I think being more financially responsible means, if it's a necessity, fine...if you've got three bags in the closet, it's not...it's just our society pushing advertisements of sexy women that we project onto thinking, if we buy such & such handbag, we'll look sexy too...well, I'm not buying into that pitch any more.....

I think that's so smart. Kudos to you! I want to be more like that - I know that more expensive jeans or a more "name" handbag don't make me a better person or make people like me more, but it is true that sometimes women feel like they have to have that kind of stuff, or they are just somehow less. And all it does, really, is make you feel better for a minute, then stress you out when the bill comes. I'm trying to imagine how good it will feel when I finally pay off my credit card, and when I know I have actual savings in the bank. Or at least this is what I'm trying to tell myself now.

ok...so I put the purse on hold but didn't go back for it on the island...went shopping at TJ Maxx and found a number of purses, made by the same designer....at 1/2 price!!!!

Instead of getting the black one that looked the same except for some ornamentation; I found a feminine, violet colored little bag for $40 same designer (Hobo) and it's like nothing I own.

Good price, no repetitive purchase & I'm happy!

Ah, but the shopping/spending bug still bit, didn't it?

I guess I'm lucky. I hate purchasing anything for myself and my wife has to hand-carry me to the clothiers to replace slacks, shirts, ties, etc. even when I need them. If I'm going to spend money I'd rather do so on something for her or for us, something for the home.

Well, I only started buying my own stuff this year. I only buy when I need new stuff or need something fresh. I tend to buy quality clothes rather than more lower quality stuff. I love TK Maxx as it sells designer gear at decent prices, I personally wouldn't spend more than £20 on a t-shirt but when I can get a £60 version for £15 I tend to whip it up.

I tend to buy about £100 worth of clothes every half year, about 5 t-shirts a smart shirt and some shoes. If you get good stuff it will last longer and makes sense rather than buying cheap tat and having to replace it.

I don't really buy something unless its unique, stylish and needed. I wouldn't buy another bag or shoes if my current ones are fine, even if they look nice. :D

I'm going to a film festival this weekend & needed a new handbag as well! A girl's got to do what she needs to do! LOL! If I can get a new outfit w/shoes, handbag & top & bottom for under $100...you know I'm good!;) ;) ;)
