Star Gazer
...whatever you want to call it. I'm a little worried about a friend ~ that perhaps her pot smoking is a little troublesome, problematic, even addicting?? Would you consider it "addicting"? If someone smokes it daily, like one or two "hits" or whatever a day, are they an "addict"? If so, if they do so and still manage to function quite normally (or even better than most people!), would you still consider it to be problematic? For those who do NOT have a problem with recreational MJ use...when is it too much??

For those who do NOT have a problem with recreational MJ use...when is it too much?? I hear people all the time say that its not addicting but I don't buy that. I call it an addiction if the individual can't go a few days without smoking. I also consider it an addiction if they can't go somewhere, like a party for example and can not resist it there either. Its also an addiction if you get in trouble by the law with it and yet you still continue to smoke it. If they are able to still function properly, then more power to them but speaking as a former smoker, it did nothing but unmotivate me and get me in trouble with the law. burning 4 revenge
In high school and college, i used to smoke it almost every day. Now i'm lucky if i smoke it three times a year. No, it isn't physically addicting, but some get into a kind of subculture which makes it psychologically addicting. I really wish they would just legalize the tuff. I was just looking at different seeds on the net ( Dutch company) and there are so many strains and varieities I would love to try, but there's no way I'm going to invest big money in hydroponics. It would seriously change the quality we have here in the states as well. Most of the weed i've had has had a muddying effect and a bitter taste. I've had the pleasure of a few strains that tasted sweet and gave a clear euphoric high. There would be so much good quality stuff on the market and the schwag would virtually dissapear. It's too depressing to think about it any more.
burning 4 revenge
What I really want to try is black hash, which is hash oil dusted with opium poppy. That, however ,could be potentially addictive.
T_Bone
Dude.. Enough of the "black hash" talk.. It's weak. As for Star Gazer. I used to have a major problem with marijuana or weed or whatever you want to call it. I would smoke tremendous amounts of it at my peak. It would be the first thing I would do when I woke up in the morning, whether I had to go to school or to work, it didnt matter. I could definetly function normal but the problem was when I didnt have it. That is when you must realize you have a problem. I smoked weed for years consistently everyday multiple times a day before it got to the point where I "needed" it. Before that point, I would say that it was recreational and that I did it for something to do and for cause it was a social thing. When i found myself doing bongs by myself every morning and before bed ( couldnt sleep with out it ) thats when it really hit me " I have a serious problem!!! " Anyways, to get to the point, If your friend is doing it everyday consistently, then yes, she is addicted, but if she doesnt want to quit then she definetly wont. If you want her to, than just point out all the bad things about it and all the long term effects it could have on her. It definelty wont scare her out of douing it, but maybe she might realize that she has a problem and there is serious potential for it to get worse. I think I am rambling here a bit now.. I lost my train of thought lol ( short term memory loss is a side effect of smoking weed ) so yeah, if she does any of the above listed, then she is addicted.
burning 4 revenge
Have you tried it? From what I've read it isn't weak at all.
Author Star Gazer
Thanks Riddler and TBone. My friend basically has a hit (is that what it's called?) like maybe right when she gets home from work (she has a stressful job and home life) and before bed on occasion as well to get herself to sleep (and yes, she does this ALONE). She also smokes it socially with our other friends on the weekends - more than just one or two hits, more like a bowl or two. It's weird... if this were coke or meth or something, I'd be flipping out. But having tried/smoked pot often during high school and college, I understand the experience. I guess what I don't get is the desire to do it as often as she does, which makes me think it IS addicting. I am 100% certain that she does not do any other drugs of any kind, just weed. vi_pn_babe25
I would say it can be addicting for certain individuals, and it definitely can lead to other addictions. I smoked for 4 years, every single day, morning-noon-night with my ex bf. When I say that weed can lead to other addictions, well it certainly was true with me. Since weed is pretty much a downer, I started abusing uppers so I could balance out my moods. To this day I'm still addicted to uppers, like ephedrine-primarily for mood alterating (speeding) and weight maintaining. But since I broke up with my ex a year ago, I really don't have any connections with weed anymore so I haven't smoke since then and it doesn't bother me. Yah I might crave it on occasion especially if someone around me is smoking, but I look back at when I smoked and all it did really was make me paranoid and that made me uncomfortable. So I believe that you can be addicted to it when you have daily access to it, but coming from experience you can definitely be weened off it to the point of (most likely) never smoking again But like I said, that is if you cut all ties of access. suga
What I really want to try is black hash, which is hash oil dusted with opium poppy. That, however ,could be potentially addictive. I tried it once but did not smoke enough I guess cause it didnt do anything to me that hash wouldnt have done...It is hard to find though...mabey it was not real black tar opium...opiates are bad though anyways. And THC is good for you...not physically addictive...only psycologically addictive...but the byproducts in the plant are harmfull to your lungs when you smoke it. It relieves pressure in the eye for glaucoma...then anorexia nervosa...and cancer patients use it...aids patients use it...etc. etc. The government makes marinol pills...yep everywhere in the country the government is prescriping THC pills medically. Not bad stuff at all.

Pyro
Oh and nobody can over dose on weed. There hasn't been anything documented as of yet, but anything is possible. It can impair your judgement, so it can be fatal. i refused to ever drive when i use to get high.
littlekitty
SG, I like to smoke MJ and do so regularly. I hold down a good (technical) job and function at a high level. To all outward appearences, you wouldn't expect me to be a MJ 'user'. Is addictive physically? Not to my knowledge. But there can be a reliance, most certainly. And let's face it, it's not sensible to be reliant on any substance. I don't want to get into details of my usage on here, but if you have any questions, PM me and I'll answer you as best I can. My advice... don't worry about it. Doesn't sound like your friend has a major issue.
Guitar Wizard
There's nothing wrong with a little weed now and then, as long as we don't turn into dirty hippies
suga
LMAO There is nothing wrong with living in a bus and letting your children run around naked. They are conserving water ya know...LOL
Guitar Wizard
Yeah but half the time their kids are butt-ugly and dirty and really should put a poncho on or something. But yeah, there really is nothing wrong with living in a van/bus. I actually have a 1966 dodgy hippy van with a hammock in the back, that I smoked weed out of. So, I was a hippy for a week, im proud to say it wasn't a fun experiance.

burning 4 revenge
There's nothing wrong with a little weed now and then, as long as we don't turn into dirty hippies When I turned 21, I went full-scale over to punk and drinking from grunge and weed. I stopped smoking weed all together for five years based on the antagonistic punk rock ethos against "dirty hippies". Anybody remember Rick and Neil on the young ones? Or are you all too young? Now your'e the young ones.

suga
I stopped smoking weed all together for five years based on the antagonistic punk rock ethos against "dirty hippies". First of all, all the punks I know do smell badly of alcohol...but they also smoke and sell alot of weed??? The ones I know are all gutter punks though...mabey you know a different breed...where as I know close to nothing about punk culture...but did go to a punk show where the singer got naked and talked about how we should all kill him...and one Gwar show where they pissed cool aid all over the audience and ate the Pope and some Terrorists.
