My dad, My boyfriend, and my pets

I hope I get a few good suggestions for this one cuz I really don't know what to do.

So, I just got back last year from 4 years away at university. During my second year I adopted 2 wonderful cats (who have both had not ONE previous owne, but many previous owners in their few years of life before I adopted them). They are my babies. They have been there for me thick and thin and I feel like I'd die without them.

Anyway, here is my situation. My cats now live with my parents, and my dad hates it. He and I keep getting in these heated discussions/arguments about how he wants them out of the house. I currently live with my boyfriend, but because he is allergic, we can't have them in the house. We have an area in the basement that the cats can be kept, but my boyfriend doesn't agree with putting them there. I can't give them away because it would break my heart.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do so I can finally get my cats out of my parent's house, but yet keep them as my own?

I wouldn't ever put a pet over a love one and it looks like you are for your dad and your boyfriend.........

Your boyfriend cannot control his allergies. It wouldn't be fair to try to isolate them in one corner of the house. Decide if this guy is a keeper and find a new home for the cats or find a new place to live with the cats.

It really isn't far to the cats for you to put them in a home that doesn't want them.

Thanks for your input.

I agree with you, but at the same time as crazy as it may make me sound, my cats are there for me at all times. They seem to know when I'm upset and try to cuddle with me and won't leave my side particularly when I'm upset. Plus, my boyfriend and I were dating for 5.5 years, and then he broke up with me. I lived on my own with no one to keep me company, but my cats were there and like most pets, they love me unconditionally. So now me and my bf are back together, and I feel almost like I'm giving up a friend that was there for me during hard times for the boyfriend who caused the hard times... know what I mean? But, I completely understand ur point which is why I'm considering finding them a new home. I just want them to be in a home where they are wanted and loved as much as I do for them, and a home that isn't going to just pass them along to someone else.. they've already had 3 homes.

Hi, I understand your point of view, I have owned cats all my life and know what sort of attachment you can form to them.

Is there any way that your boyfriend or dad can look into tablets for their allergies or anything like that? I have an aunt who keeps a dog even though my uncle is allergic to it as he takes tablets to controlh is allergies. or is that they are not prepared to look into this? I know that I would be extreemly reluctant to give up my cats for anything, without at least trying to find a way to keep them first as you are trying to do. Your cats rely on you after being pets for so long to care for them and feed them and I would look into the allergy thing in more detail.

Good luck
