luvtoto
This is the second time I have been declined for a life insurance policy. If anything would ever happen to me, I would want my children to be OK. They are not sharing with me why they declined, just that it was something from my medical records. The company also told me that they have no other options for me. Five years ago, I attempted suicide [it was a pretty weak attempt], but it landed me a mental hospital, where I got the help I needed. Since then, I have faced all my demons from my childhood, and am pretty happy now, with the help of counseling. Now, my past is haunting me. I need to get this policy for my children, so I can sleep at night. I know it's ironic but...if anything happened to me, I don't know what my kids would do. I am all they have. Does anyone know of a company that specializes in 'high-risk' policies. Has anyone ever been through this process?
alphamale
Does anyone know of a company that specializes in 'high-risk' policies. Has anyone ever been through this process? you need to get into a group life ins. policy where they don't check your medical records. can your current employer offer this or can you change jobs to a new employer who offers group life? a high risk policy you buy yourself will be very expensive and probably not worth it if you want a decent amount of coverage (say $250,000)
Author luvtoto
Thanks Alpha. I work for a small business and they do not offer group policies or health insurance for that matter. In the town where I live in, there are not many *good* jobs to pick from. I am scared to quit, because I have strong job security. I mean, if it ain't broke.... I feel like such a loser now. Lishy
Honey you are not a loser! Jeeeze your kids are lucky that you sorted out your problems before you did end up dead! They are also so lucky to have a mum who cares so much about them! I cannot offer advice for your life insurance as I live in England and you would get it here. But dont call yourself a loser! Thanks Lishy. But, I only have myself to blame here. I can see the insurance agency's point of view. I am a risk, I guess. They don't know me. I am just ink on a page to them. Lishy
Of course you are Luv - It is not personal about you, it is purely about the $$$$$$$$$$ You had a hard time and you did something out of desperation ... Big deal, we all do things we should not do! You are not a loser you just cant get insured as they see you as a risk! If you had a major heart problem they wouldnt insure you and it wouldnt make you a loser! You are a top girl hunny and dont forget it! Just keep trying to get insurance - You will find some company that will!
Author luvtoto
Just keep trying to get insurance - You will find some company that will! Like I said, I live in a small town, and I see my insurance agent around town alot. Now, it's gonna be embarassing for me. Hey, remember me? I am the mental patient turndown. Or better yet with a new company, "I would like life insurance. By the way, I tried to kill myself once so I will be a high risk member. Nice to meet you."
Lishy
Hey ..... You didnt try to kill your kids, you didnt try to kill ANYONE else! You tried to end your own life out of desperation and depression for whatever reasons! Dont worry about what anyone thinks what you did years ago - What matters is NOW! Dont beat yourself up hunny, you are wonderful! rather then life insurance you could get a morgage on a property and rent it out to pay the morgage and leave it to your kids in the instance of anything happening to you ... just another option! Art_Critic
find out exactly why you were denied.. it might not be what you think or it might even be an error
Author luvtoto
find out exactly why you were denied.. it might not be what you think or it might even be an error They gave me that option. I am hesitant to do it though. My insurance agent is gonna be there during the meeting. I don't want him knowing a bunch of personal stuff about me. I like working with my home town agents on other things...just not this. I guess, I need to find an insurance agent from a different town. Who doesn't know crap about me...and if he did, who cares. tinktronik
When you apply for life ins. they pull your medical records while underwriting , so reguardless of what town you are applying through as long as you were hospitalized it will appear and leave you uninsurable. Your option would be to go through a company like globe life through mail in application for a policy , start with a term life policy if they accept you they will be more likely a few years down the road to up your insurability to a whole life policy. Do not disclose anything verbally that you do not have to.

tinktronik
I can't promise anything , but it's most likely your best shot.Globe Life , you can google it.

When I apply, I shouldn't offer them my past on a silver platter? Let them find things out on their own? Is that correct?
tinktronik
I'm not going to anwser that question directly , but you don't have to disclose completely. There are questions asked on most insurance apps that ask questions about hospitalization within the last 5 years to the date .Was it in the exact, to the date, last 5 years? or 5 years and 3 days ? Many forms will only ask back the last 3 years .You don't have to disclose anyhing you don't want to .Is your hospitalization part of your medical record? You will be asked wether you have been denied insurance thru another company though. I've been told that globe life is not as invasive as many other companies , so give it a shot. If that does not work .Go sit down with an agent talk to him directly about your situation , he may know of someone who does a specific plan that can help you or he may have a small plan to begin with ,but try the online form first. I just got done applying for three policies. One for each child, and then a policy for my children. If anything would happen to them, I could afford their funeral expenses. Eeeeesh. Not gonna think about that too much. Anyway, the prices were very reasonable, and no invasive snooping in my past. I've got everything submitted and I'll let you know if I get approved. Thanks everyone! I feel so much better now. I love LS!
