The grass wasn't greener--Now what??

Recommended Posts

So I left my job of 4 years on Friday (June 2nd) for a new opportunity with a larger financial institution and today (June 6th) was my second day at my new job and I TOTALLY hate it...Tonight I worked up the nerve to call my old boss and ask for my job back but she wasn't home so now I have to wait to hear from her...I am nervous about asking for my old job back but I am hopeful because they haven't hired anyone to replace me yet and it has been hectic since I left...Any advice or well wishes would be appreciated!! :-)

Hope things work out for you!

I'm just wondering if you gave the new job enough of a chance, however. Two days is an awfully short time to decide you hate something enough to quit.

If you left on good terms she may welcome you back with open arms. i left my job for 8 months and then came back. But I do think you should have given it more time to see if you would like it better in three months or so.

I also wish you the best! Is there any incentive here at the new job? Better pay, benefits, etc. that you might want to consider staying? What exactly bugs you so much about the new gig?

My question is:

Why did you leave your old job in the first place?

For whatever reason the problem will still be there when/if you return..

I don't think you gave your new job enough time either for the simple fact humans are creatures of habit. We like familiarity. Change is often difficult to accept and often we also give up before we allow ourselves to adjust and see the benefits of change.

SO TRUE.

Listen to her advice.

Eventually, you'll come to a point where you'll have to force yourself to see things through or else you'll develop a bad habit of quitting when things are getting tough.

I am guilty of doing that...but, I'm happy to say I've broken that habit and a lot of times - seeing things through the rough spots actually gave me the much needed change I was looking for. If I never made myself get over that initial hump, I never would've known it.

I went back after nearly a year and am much more appreciated there than when I left. But I NEVER let them know I made a bad decision and they came back looking for me! So hold on to your hat and ride the new one for a while. you will be valuable to them soon too! And then if you still want to go back you can start a salary war!
