How to stop the cravings

Recommended Posts

Ok well I had taken a break from the weight loss thread. I had some stuff come up I know not an excuse.

But I am still walking 1.5 miles a day and want to ad jogging and evening walk.

But I also want to give up sweets. I have a really bad sweet tooth and need to take a break from sweets. The cravings are realy bad. Does anyone have any tricks or secrets?

Also I can't have anything with artifical sweetners in it. They give me migraines.

I'm glad someone posted about this.

Hotgurl, I have the same problem. I love chocolate, and other sweets.

This is what I do. When I grocery shop, I DO NOT buy sweets. I have the self control to not buy them, but I do not have the the self control to not eat it if its laying around my house, so I simply do not buy it. WHen you go to a restaurant, instead of ording dessert, order some fruit.

Drink Alcohol

I have a sweet addiction and have trouble controling it as well..

I find that if I can stop myself from buying it then I'm fine.. meaning I only go grocery shopping after I have eaten and never before or when I'm hungry

try chewing mint or cinnamon gum ... that seems to help me through most stages of cravings. The amount is portioned, it keeps your jaws busy, the flavors are usually intense and if you really need the sugar, you can get the regular (sugarful) kind instead of those with artificial sweetners.

other trick I have is to bribe myself with a special treat. I love iced tea and can consume it by the gallon. So, when I eat out (especially at dairy queen, where I cave in and order ice cream I normally wouldn't eat), I tell myself that a huge to-go cup of unsweetened tea with lemon or lime and sweet & low is my "treat." You can prolly do that with another refreshing drink (lemonade, flavored teas) or even a fruit or lo-cal frozen treat you normally wouldn't eat.

Yes, eat hard candies which have no fat, only sugar. Jolly Rancher work quite well...especially watermelon, apple and cherry flavours. :p

Not being able to have artificial sweeteners makes it hard. I usually pop a piece of gum or a sucking candy. It's low calorie but takes care of the sugar cravings.

The other things I do when I have cravings are drink a lot of ice water and eat fruit. If the craving is really bad I'll have some dried fruit.

Thank you for the suggestions. When we eat out I don't order dessert and I don't buy sweets for the house. My BF doesn't eat sugar.

It's at work where I have the problem. Part of it is the office ladies always bring in sweets & candies & pastries and also my job isn't excatly challenging so I think I think about it more.

Sometimes it's bad when I start thinking about something I love to eat and then I just compulsivly think about it. Maybe I'll try gum

Also I love soft serve ice cream & custard. But I only allow myself a cone once every two weeks.

Frozen and regular yoghurt (flavoured, like yoplait) are excellent low-fat choices also HOTGURL....

Really you can freeze yogurt. I love vanilla yoplait with fresh strawberries in it. maybe I get some freezy pop things and make my own.

edit: I know of frozen yogurt but I always thought it was as bad as ice cream. I'm not that blonde.

I gorge myself on "Gardettos".

I think I get the right mix of sugar and starch with it. Besides the crunch! I love to crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch.

I crave sugar. I get nasty nasty cravings. I discovered I can eat like 8 tootsie rolls and one can of mt. dew and I will be tripping out like I'm intoxicated. That is bad bad bad.

My mother said alcoholics and even children of alcoholics will tend to get hard cravings for sugar or bread products..

I crave both. In extremes. My father is a former alcoholic and my grandfather (moms father) died of psoriasis of the liver. Inherited the damn cravings..
