johhny traintrack
I know this isn't a doctor's office and i don't expect to get clear medical advice here, but i'm just in need of a kick in the ass in the right Direction... I'm 5'10", i weigh 178, i'm a small frame, (not a huge boned guy) but in the last year and a half, i've gained 20 pounds. i was dealing with some family issues, unhappy at the job, No excuse, but i just let myself go. Some say i look good, i beg to differ. I have a double chin, the man boobs are starting to come in a little and my belly is looking like it's had too many beers. I'm not gross, but i look outta shape.. I'm out of breath going up the steps, i'm constantly tired, i have joint pains, My pants are fitting so tight... How the hell can i get motivated???? where do i start? It's so HARD trying to run, i have to walk every 2 mintues. back is hurting more lately, I feel horrible....

I'd start by looking at what you eat.

Author johhny traintrack
GUILTY Yep, i don't eat the greatest. Hardly any vegetables, 2 colas a day, coffee drinks (the high fat kind) at least every other night. Food is my ENEMY. But, I just don't see the point in eating better, if i'm not exercising, which is hard as heck to do for me right now, because i feel like crap almost every morning, can't get outta bed, etc.
Art_Critic
You're getting older.. your metabolism is slowing down. cut your calorie intake back and start exercising. the older you get the less calories your body can metabolize in a day.
sclemson
You are addicted to caffein and are taking in too much sugar. I had the same problem, then I went on a system that pushed my body to the limits. I quickly found out that I could not sustain what i was doing based on my diet. It took me about 4-6 weeks to completely get rid of my caffien addiction (went thru headaches, etc) but once I was free from it, all of the fatigue, headache, feeling like I was in a fog symptoms vanished. Sugar is equally problematic. You will be amazed at how alive you feel once you cut those 2 items out of your life. Drink water. You'll feel 100 times better. Metabolism also slows to a crawl as you age but there are very effective ways around that as well. message me and Ill give you some good ideas.

Once you start eating better, then you start being proud of yourself for making positive changes, and you'll probably feel a bit better. As for exercise, walking is perfectly fine. If you have back problems, see a doctor - could be you need orthotics or that some types of walking shoes are better than others. Once you get your endurance up through walking (trust me, it works) , you can then venture out to do more exercises - and when you realize how good your body feels when you exercise, then you get hooked on exercising. So make a start - ditch the junk foods, learn to love vegies and fruit, and toss the bad habits.

You have no idea how much better you will feel once you ditch junk food!! I was feeling sluggish, tired, sick to my stomach, lethargic while living with my mother. She always had chips, cookies, chips, popcorn, chips, sugary cereals, and chips laying around. Then I moved in with my SO who is a health nut, and I started learning how to cook healthy meals for us and I can't tell you how much better I feel and I wasn't working out!! That junk was weighing me down. We just started a work out routine last week, and I already feel motivated now that I have initiated a healthy lifestyle for myself!! Be good to your body, and it will be good back to you!! Also think about a good vitemin suppliment
gfto
Yep, i don't eat the greatest. Hardly any vegetables, 2 colas a day, coffee drinks (the high fat kind) at least every other night. stop it. no cola, no high fat frappacino drinks. Eat your vegetables! Have some steamed broccoli and spinach with your dinner. But, I just don't see the point in eating better, if i'm not exercising. Wrong. Diet is 70% of the equation. And when I say "diet," I don't mean less food; rather, I mean eating the right foods at the right time. Clean carbs (oatmeal, whole wheat bread, brown rice) until early evening (6ish), then get your carbs from veggies the rest of the day. Drink tons of water. Egg whites, lean ground turkey, baked chicken, tuna. Don't forget the good fats: almonds, avacados, olive oil. Improving your eating habits, alone, will make the fat melt away. This is not to say exercise isn't important; it is. But, you need to focus on clean, unprocessed foods. Cut out the junk.
Dawn82
Once the "costs" (pysical/emotional/others) of being unhealthy will outweight the "costs" of doing something about it you might do something about it. Or you might not and end up in a self feeding cycle of getting worse and worse. Nobody can give you motivation for outside. If you do something for someone else/to gain something for the short term it is not going to last. We are talking about the rest of your life. You wanna feel like s*** for the rest of your life? is it worth it for you to eat 80% of the time clean food and exercise 3 times a week for the rest of your life to feel good? thats the only question that need to be asked. pippen_2k
Id make exercise your first priority here! But the thing is you HAVE to find something you enjoy! Running and walking long distances isnt for everyone, and alot of times it will become tedious ( I think thats a word? ) and boring... hence people dont stick with it. If you can choose a social sport like volleyball or basketball, or whatever sport floats your boat, you will find yourself sticking with it and you might actually enjoy it and lose weight at the same time!!!!!!!!!! Bonus! This is presuming you are starting off totally inactive. If so start with something fun like this and in a few months re-evaluate and add something more into your routine. reservoirdog1
If you want to try a fun physical activity that will make you feel good and give you a great workout, check out some of your local health clubs to see if they offer boxing/boxerfit classes. Most of them are non-contact. I did those for about six months. Had to stop due to scheduling changes. But while I did it, it was great. You sweat something fierce and it's great for your frustrations, not to mention your body. Plus while you're doing it you feel like a bad motherf*cker.
Author johhny traintrack
i can't thank you all enough for your help and advice. i appreciate it so very much, sincerely. reading these posts and recently visiting the doctor's office for a check up...i've realized that i'm hurting my body. My wife doesn't cook horribly, she actually cooks things with vegetables and cooks fairly lo-fat. It's the breakfast and the lunch when she's not around where i eat bad. No fruits or veggies, hardly any water, processed lunch meats and chips, Late Night Snacking, etc. My doc said she couldn't believe i let myself change so much over the course of a year. It's no excuse, but i think i kinda let the hidden depressive side of me take over (my close friend died a year ago), and i haven't felt motivated to get in shape and 'bad food' is like comfort food. it makes me feel good, sorta "Super Size Me" style. I've been eating mcDonalds, drinking the starbuck's frappiccinos, having a lot of ice cream...etc. Anyway, i'm gonna start with running around on the basketball court and drinking more water and No More Soda. I'll get there. i feel like i've found some desire and determination to get healthy. i actually tried jogging on saturday. wow. it was HARD Anyway, Thanks for the help.
