Well...this certainly is screwy.

I'm a week and a half from graduating the Police Academy. I'm also pursuing a Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering.

How have I done both? I am crazy. This kind of schedule also caused me a pretty sh-tty break-up with my S.O. which explains why I'm here...lol.

Well - as it turns out. I've had a change of heart about being a cop. Why? I've got my reasons. I owe my stunted career as a "cop" to a mentor of mine. He used to be a Homicide Detective and now, due to an on the job injury - he moved on and kept his pension and became a Toxicologist (I met this guy through the program at my University). I gave the police thing a shot and I've made up my mind - I'm just kind of wary about telling my mentor. He was pretty charged about me becoming a cop.

He's been like an older brother to me, and while I'm going to see this through to graduation, I'm going to piss off a lot of people resigning from my Dept. within a month or two...meh. Getting through a Police Academy was no easy task. I don't know if I'm burning out here with career conflicts and dealing with my S.O. dumping me (even after 4 months...it still bothers me) causing me to want to resign or if it's just the fact that I need a vacation.

I guess this is just me venting more than asking advice.

Sounds like you need a vacation. LOTS of people burn out under the stress and go in a totally different direction once they have achieved their diploma or training in the field they chose. Give yourself some time to heal from your break up and to recover from the stresses you've been under. Then you can make the decision to go or stay with the police department and you will be more confident in whatever decision you make.

Congrats by the way! That is a LOT of hard work!
