I know you weren't looking for a response really. Because I've been there, somethings I learned are: a.) Never build a house together. Buy one already finished. b.) Find hobbies you can do together as a team. c.) as soon as you notice a problem, act on it. Don't pretend its nothing. ACT that second.

Follow those three things, and you two will have a long prosperous life together. :)

Congratulations on the soon to be marriage!!

I have my doubts about your conviction. Only because I read your profile. If you aspire to cheat do you love him with every fiber of your being? Don't get me wrong, Congratulations. I just hope your priorities have been throughly discussed with your life partner. Communication is a great foundation for any relationship, especially the ones that last a long long time.

Congatulations to you, girl! I am very happy for your happiness and wish you a wonderful wedding day! Don't forget about us when you get married! :p

Never build a house together. Buy one already finished.
Why? Just wondering why you said this, since hubby and I are thinking about building OR buying a house. I am not quite familiar yet with the the US real estate. I also think IHNFC might be curious to hear your answer. :)

as soon as you notice a problem, act on it. Don't pretend its nothing. ACT that second.

Actually in a marriage (I am in my second) sometimes it's better to NOT jump the second when something is wrong. When you react instantly, you throw accusations and let your anger and pain out without thinking. It's crucial to count to 100 and back before saying anything that you might later regret. You can always talk tomorrow, but you can never bring back the moment when you hurt someone verbally and undo that.

It's important to communicate and it takes time to find the "frequency" where your both minds work productively without fighting. All problems should be solved through discussions and any arguments should be avoided. I am speaking from personal experience and basing on the numerous mistakes I (and others) have made. When my husband and I manage to discuss problems peacefully with love, even the biggest problems are being magically resolved in a manner that satisfies both of us. But when we start with hostility, even the smallest issues acquire huge dimensions.

Not every little mistake is worth mentioning. Criticism should be productive, friendly, and point out at how the criticized party will benefit from improving their behavior. (IHNFC, are you listening? ) For example, my husband told me once: "I said what I said, because I love you more than anything and when you say certain things, it HURTS me more than anything." Since I don't want to hurt him, I will benefit from correcting my mistakes. No accusation or clever argument about how bad I am would motivate me more than an honest confession from him to avoid a certain mistake in the future.

However try to avoid trap number one in new-age marriages: you start the talk in a friendly way talking rationally just to explode when you come to a wall on the other side.

Thank alot RP....Great advice. We do do that. We have never once raised our voices (mostly b/c he doens't get mad at ANYTHING!:D ) But we don't bicker really...were very easy going people who don't sweat the small stuff...So we got a flat tire.no biggie...just change it and go on your merry way. I think that's why some people are so irritable. Don't worry that oyu got a flat tire....its it really THAT bad where you curse and scream and throw things...no its GOING TO BE OOOOOKAY!

Yup, it's OK to argue, just don't cross the line and swear at eachother or call eachother rude/nasty names.

Never go to bed pissed off at eachother.

Laugh and be silly ALOT. Life gets tougher and s*** happens so sometimes you just gotta laugh.

Communication. Walk is right. If something is wrong, don't hide it, talk about it always! No matter what.

RP has good advice too!!

Oh, don't paint a house together and definately DO NOT DO YOUR INCOME TAXES TOGETHER! EVER! Trust me on that one...

Congrats and happy humping on your wedding night!
