I saw my psychiatrist at a concert tonight

I'm not sure what this means, but I bumped into my psychiatrist this evening at a symphony concert. When I recognized him with his wife from a distance I went up to him a smiled. He smiled back, but didn't say hello or anything. First of all I thought that he didn't recognize me, but then I wondered if it was part of his code of ethics not to interact or talk to patients outside of hours. Why wouldn't he at least have been able to just say hello?

Psychiatrists, psychologists and others who render mental health and other similar services will not in any way put a client in a position of having to introduce them to others and explain who they are. You are correct, that's an ethics thing.

If you had been alone and bumped into him on the street...and he was alone as well...he would have greeted you properly.

Leave the poor guy alone. I hope you enjoyed the concert and appreciated his discretion.

Jennie:

If this is your post, I feel so sad for you. With all the things out in the world to worry about, getting so sensitive about your shrink's reaction to you at a public function is way off the wall.

I doubt that's Jennie....I'm sure she's still holed up in the broom closet. You know, that anti-social thing and all. But hey, maybe Wendy would give Jennie the name of her shrink, whaddya figure?
