sweetmind20
Hi:) I have been trying to get my husband to admit that his weight is not what it should be. We are 22 and 25 years old. At 5'6 or so, I weigh 125. He is nearly 6'0 tall and weighs 124 pounds. Isn't this extremely unhealthy? He skips entire meals all the time and gorges on food the rest of the time. His legs are beginning to look like tiny wrists. I'm really worried about him. Do you think this is a metabolism issue or a psychological issue(eating disorder)? any opinions would be helpful
blind_otter
has he always been like this? 6' tall and 124 lbs. sounds really awfully skinny to me. My exH weighed that much and he was 5'7, and he was always drinking weight gainer shakes and stuff to put ON weight, so your H must be really skinny with no muscle tone. Have you talked about this? Has he been to the doctor recently??
Dawn82
assuming an height of 5'11 and 124lbs his BMI comes to 17.3 which is underweight. While I don't trust BMI normally to determine if one is overweight its has some merits to determine if someone is underweight. If he does not admit to having a problem there is not much you can help him with. If you can take him to the doctor the doctor will caculate his BMI and tell him he is underweight, if this is enough to convince him try to do it... Try to rule out or confirm any metabolisim issues and get him to eat in a more orderly fashion. Some resistence training would not hurt as it can only add some muscle mass on your husband. Shahar. Do you think this is a metabolism issue or a psychological issue(eating disorder)? any opinions would be helpful I think his overall weight history is important to consider. Has his weight been close to 125 for a long time or does he yo-yo (go up and down) frequently? Has he had any significant weight loss (more than 5% of his regular weight) recently? Does he have problems with irritable bowel, anemia, ulcerative colitis or any other gastrointestinal issues? Is his energy level low? Does he get sick frequently? Is his blood pressure normal? Does he have wierd food rituals, practices or preferences? Has his level of activity changed in any way? He does sound very thin, but some people are thin all their lives and perfectly healthy. I'd suggest a complete physical to rule out any medical problems (this should include blood tests) and see if you can have an honest talk with him about your concerns
