Difference between a break and a breakup?

Recommended Posts

I asked him why he said "break" when he really meant breakup? he says he still means "break", that's why. He says he needs to get his **** straight before he can be with me. But he tells me not to wait around on him either. So isn't that really a breakup?

I'm so confused.... Why is he sticking with that word?

There is no difference, except that one word has two syllables.

In his mind, he wants to keep you around, so that he can come back to you, once he's had his share of other girls, hence the "break."

If you're both young, then perhaps it's best to date other people, that way you won't regret it when you're older.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

A break is a nice way to say you want to break up. You think in your head..."Oh ,he just needs space" But while he's getting his "space" he's seeing other people and b]BOOM[/b] finds another person...and theres the "break up"

LoL! And that's why I too, don't believe in 'breaks'. It's either all-of-me, or none-of-me.

Break up: means I don't want to spend my life with you

Break: means I just want to check, before deciding I don't want to spend my life with you

why would he put me through that when I was the one who said, "OK, let's just break up then". Why keep telling me how much he really cares about me and needs me in his life? What purpose does that serve him? I thought I made it pretty easy for him to just break up with me. But he keeps calling and checking on me!

Look, he is just stringing you along. Seen this a million times. My ex tried to do the same thing. I should have cut and run, but I decided to stay around for more pain. Lessons learned!

A break just means that he is trying to sneak out of the relationship without the guilt of ending it. In some ways he probably wants you to end it (removing his guilt for what happens as a result) but at the same time he wants to keep you on a string.

It is not a nice thing to do to a person. It does not show integrity.

I wish that he had only said he wanted a break, if he told me that I would go on, date other people, have fun with friends and I would take it as it was a break up and NOT A BREAK. Not that it doesn't hurt but it's cowardly way to end something with someone that you supposedly care about.

why did he take care of me on Saturday when I was sick? Why does he seem so intent on making me feel better? All because of guilt? That makes me feel worse to think he doesn't genuinely care about me but is instead using me to make himself feel better.

my ex said she wanted a "break" too. on prom nite no less. she ended up making out with some guys right in front of me and then sleeping with some guy i knew. i think that the ppl who use the term 'break' over 'break-up' are trying to get the best of both worlds. they want to go out and be free with other members of the opposite sex, but still keep u on just in case they decide they want to come back to u. its really just a cruel way to break up with someone.
