My sister, her legacy...being torn down

Today is such a sad day for my family and I. :(

Before my sister died, she was working in the child care room at the church my older sister has worked at for years. She painted a beautiful mural of Baby Jesus and Mother Mary on one wall and Noahs Arc on the other. She was an amazing artist. She Died shortly after she painted it.

Now, Five years later, the Church has changed priest and they are painting over the wall and maybe even tearing the build down and building a new one. I am so sad. My older sister is having a professional take photos of the mural and turn them into posters. This is a bit of comfort, but not much.

It was one of the last pieces of Art my sister ever did. Her memorial service was at that church and over 400 people came. Now I feel her last works are being destroyed. This is horrible news. I will go to the church tomorrow and take my own photos of the murals and pay my respects.

If they decide not to tear down maybe you could start a petition.

At least you will have pictures if they do tear it down. I'm sorry that a part of her is being destroyed.

I'm sorry for your sad news BF.

Sad though it may be, a small compensation is that for 5 years her art will have bought joy to everyone who passed through the church.

call the bishop's office and see if there's anything he can do to intervene. I know that's stepping on toes, but if the image was blessed by the previous pastor, that might be cause enough to keep it from being destroyed ...

good luck

So very sad to hear they are ridding of it :(

Long-shot, but how large are the murals? Perhaps your family can request to somehow 'keep' the sections she had painted on? Maybe, display them somewhere your family often visits, a garden or even create a garden honoring her (if you haven't done something like this yet)? Just a thought.

Yeah I was thinking, if the builders or whoever is in charge of taking down the wall could keep the part of the wall that was decorated by your sister intact you could get a cement foundation and maybe put it into the grounds of the church or your own garden so it could continue to be enjoyed.

I think the poster plan is a fantastic way for people to enjoy the beauty of your sisters vision.

My family commissioned an artist to paint murals in the children's hospital in memory of my brother that passed... a few years ago, they decided to switch the exam rooms and patient rooms so they painted over the murals.

I know it was painful for my family to see that go so I can only imagine what you and your family must feel. I'm deeply sorry!
