superconductor
There's a time to compromise, a time to let go completely and a time to be firm and put your foot down. This is time to be firm. After all, she's not just putting her own financial future in jeopardy, it's yours too. And I can guaran-farking-tee that as soon as she wants to retire, she'll be looking to you to "help out" with the payments. Be afraid. Be very, very afraid.

Ehhh see how can you say that without all the info. Perhaps buying a house and renting/ or resale it would provide income that is much needed for their retirement. Real estate is a safe investment in the majority of cases. OP would have to give more details to allow a good look at the situation. I am in the middle of building houses now on my property for resale...... my H has nothing to do with it... but I am sure when they sell he will have his little hand out asking for a piece of the profit......sorry Charlie, the money is going into another new house as soon as the first one sells. What is the price of the house? If it were rented what would it rent for? Does it need repairs? Does the area it's in have an increase in employment or prospects for the same? Etc., etc., etc. we need more details about the house, the area and the local economy before being able to even hint at an answer to your question.
