SoCalCatman72
Hi everyone, Well, I'm off to volunteer again as a camp counselor for the local foster children. It's going to be great fun, chasing 100+ teenagers with raging hormones around the San Bernadino Mountains for three days........good times. So if you feel like it, toss a quick prayer my way, that I might be able to reach out to and comfort these battered young souls, many of whom still bear the deep emotional scars of abuse and neglect, with the love and compassion of Christ. Thanks The Catman.

Author SoCalCatman72
Thank's so much everyone. It's 530am, and with a whopping 4 hours of sleep under my belt, I'm getting ready to go meet the buses . All I can think about is that line from Pulp Fiction; "Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil because I am the baddest m*****f***** in the valley.":p I'll let you all know how it went on Sunday evening. Happy weekend everyone.

Author SoCalCatman72
Hey everyone, I'm back. I missed you all so much , though I see you've been busy while I was gone. Whew, 14 pages of new posts to sort through. I had a wonderful time, am a bit sleep deprived, physically and mentally exhausted, sunburned and spiritually renewed. Was assigned two of the most wonderful campers I could ever have wished for. One was ADHD, and though I've always been a bit skeptical about this type of diagnosis, I must say this kid was living proof that it does exist. When his meds were at peak effectiveness, he was still a bit frenetic, but manageable. However when his meds were wearing off, this kid turned into three kids. I swear, he was running around chasing pine cones (which turned into a bit of a loving joke with the other counselors). However, this kid despite his difficulties had the greatest loving heart, sometimes he hugged me so hard, I had to move one of his arms away for fear we might be percieved as violating the "safe hug" rule. And despite his challenges he had the greatest faith in God. He was so precious, especially when I learned that he was the victim of his parent's drug addiction. It really touched a personal note in me, being a former addict myself, and seeing how much he missed his mother, crying when we sang her favorite songs and making renderings of her in her favorite dress during crafts, just about broke my heart into a million tiny pieces. Even now as I write this, tears are welling up in my eyes. My other kid was a bit of a "cool guy", markedly distant and guarded, but when I started sharing about my mistakes, the addiction, the abortion I convinced my ex to have and so much more, I watched the walls come tumbling down one by one. It's so great to know that I made an impact in these children's lives. One of them asked me if I could come to watch him in a performance at his group home. So thank you one and all who were there with me in spirit, I truly feel like I was able to experience the priveledge of being the Lord's hands and feet this weekend. I wrote this this weekend, thought I'd share it with you. I AM PALADIN Derived from 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 & Ephesians 6:10-20 I am Paladin, a Knight Templar in the service of Christ Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords. With salvation my armor, faith my shield, and His Word my sword, I heed His command. Sworn to protect the innocent, aid the helpless and champion the powerless, I am called to a crusade of comfort and hope. With only His Spirit as my guide and His grace in my heart to sustain me in the deepening shadows of the twilight, I roam a cold and savage land. And when it is time for me to lay down my sword for the last time, the only reward my soul does seek, is to hear from my Liege these words. "Welcome home my good and faithful servant, job well done." I am Paladin, devoted to the service of all mankind for the glory of God. Many Blessings to you all. The Catman. P.S. Thought I'd add that I met some wonderful, faithful and beautiful women at camp, and because there always seems to be a serious shortage of single, attractive men of faith at these camps, I was getting some serious attention from several of them. One of them (a lovely blonde, with the most beautiful eyes I've seen in years) even works for the ministry full time, so wish me luck.
amaysngrace
I'm so happy for you Catman. What you did was absolutely wonderful. I'm glad you've gotten so much out of giving. Hey, that's what it's all about. Many people think of what they can do to improve the world, but you actually went out there and did it. You made a difference in the lives of children. And I commend you for that. PS You deserve someone as special as yourself...good luck w/ that!
