Tony T
The kingdom of heaven is within you. Your thoughts decide your fate. No matter how much prayer you do, if you keep thinking negativity, that's what God will bring to you. Thought is more powerful prayer than spoken word, always remember that. As ye think so shall it be. Think on good and positive things at all times and you'll never go wrong. God gives you a free will. He's way to busy to control you. It wouldn't be any fun that way if he did. Pray for good health and eat crappy food and you get what you deserve. God isn't going to make all the moves for you. Anyway, right now God is watching pre-season football.

quankanne
Anyway, right now God is watching pre-season football. ... and he's hollering for the Cowboys ... so where is God? is it because that we depend more on God's work than we do on our faith? do people also play an important part after prayer? I think the people who call on God in prayer, but have an underdeveloped faith, believe that he's going to step in and make the changes necessary, rather than them acting on what needs to be done. God's not Santa Claus, and because he has not hands of his own, we are God's hands. And by seeking his guidance, we bring those about those changes we seek. to blame him for our failures when we haven't even tried to help ourselves is plain senseless, because as Tony points out, we've been given the free will to act upon decisions. so in seeking forgiveness and protection, we must go out of our way to avoid those things that we know are harmful to us, and we must understand that forgiveness is about making amends (reparation) to the one we hurt. HokeyReligions
Isn't there something in the Bible (or maybe it's an old adage that I heard growing up) that ways God helps those who help themselves. I was always taught that God doesn't answer specifics so much as God answers prayers for strength to handle the specifics of life. The Deliver Us From Evil would, IMO, mean that God would give one the strength to fight evil, to resist temptation, to survive evil done to one - that sort of thing. Not to remove the evil itself, but to strengthen a person to remove themselves from the evil.

HokeyReligions
i do. you guys still haven't answered my question. what positive thoughts do i think about. Whatever you want. Whatever is going on in your life - look for a positive. For example: My mother just passed away on 8/11/06. I miss her terribly. I can't believe she is gone. We shared everything and we were very close. I'll admit - I have always been a momma's girl. It's just not possible that she's not here - that all I have are her ashes, which we picked up yesterday. On the positive - she is not hurting. She was ready to go. She did her job here and has earned her rest. She will never worry or be sad or hurt. I will never lose the lessons she taught me and still feel that I will continue to learn from her life and her influence even though she is gone. I don't have to feed her or clean her up or worry about her falling anymore. I don't have to sleep with one ear open listening to the baby monitor for her. No one can take away the last 7+ years I had with her living with us in my home - I will have that to treasure and not everyone has that opportunity. What negatives are in your life? Look at them and find a positive.

God isn't going to make all the moves for you. andy, this is good advice. god is within you - in fact, god is everywhere, which includes within you - and how you conduct your life WILL determine its outcome. however, i would not agree with this one sentence: Thought is more powerful prayer than spoken word, always remember that. god created the world using words. they have great power to transform. so if you want to effect change in your life, focus on what you want the solution to be and say it out loud. i don't mean stand on street corners, i mean pray out loud. and here's the REALLY important bit. ACT AS IF WHAT YOU WANT TO HAPPEN HAS ALREADY HAPPENED. be thankful for it. fake it until you make it. as tony says, the universe cannot help reflect that back to you. that is the secret of life. that god is within you and that the universe is a mirror that reflects back to you what you send out. let me give you an example of that. if you send out the message (by always thinking it and by moaning to people about it): 'i have a terrible life, bad things always happen to me', the universe will think 'oh this guy wants situations where he feels terrible and bad things happen to him'. the universe is non-judgmental, it just creates what you create. it just allows you to reap what you sow. anything is possible, andy. it's only limited by what you want. there's a reason highly-successful people visualise what they want so strongly. it's because they have learned the secret to getting it. they know THEY make it happen. you make your own luck. just be careful what you wish for and remember it's the GOD WITHIN YOU who has all power to create. you can do nothing yourself. so don't forget to honour god while you're at it. Author twkvfx
What do you pray for? Sex? You won't find God in bed! i pray for friendship. i pray to ask God to help me find the confidence that i've lost in my heart. i pray to God to open up my heart. i pray to help me learn to take action. i pray for others, who necessarily need to be prayed for. i pray for my overall character, that God will help me to release my inner-self that has been locked up for a long time. But you do have to do the work yourself, you do understand that, right? God's not a magical genie. He doesn't grant wishes. I think it's important to understand where you find God. And I think nature is a beautiful example. Look at a flower, or a butterfly or even a bird. Look up to a tree. I think if you truly wish to seek God, take a blanket and go sit somewhere barefoot where nature surrounds you. For me, I feel closest to Him there.

quankanne
well, it's just that of my worries and concern of situations. mainly my relationship with people and friends. all i felt was self-doubt and don't know how to overcome it. i just don't feel confident because of that. it's a really hard time for me, and that i feel nothing but heaviness in my heart. i wanted to make a new start. but, from my position, all that seems to be a long way. are you worried about befriending people because of how you perceive yourself? Or are you shy and cannot make that first move toward friendship? Just trying to get a handle on why you feel the way you do. one thing I have learned later in life is that sometimes, you've got to be the kind of person you want to befriend or hold up as a role model. Sounds hard, but honestly, it's not as complicated as one might think, because you start looking at yourself differently. And the challenge becomes yours to reflect those things to others. Before long, someone seeking these things will be attracted to a friendship because of this, in my way of thinking. it's very easy to convince yourself when you are at your lowest that you might not have anything to offer in friendship, but that's a crock of BS – each person has something unique and special about them, and it's something another cannot find anywhere else, because no one can do it quite like you, whether it's being able to teach someone how to confidently play a musical instrument, grill the perfect pork chop, learn quadratic formulas (and make them stick in your mind!) or even just be an active listener. You've got something wonderful about you, sometimes you've just got to tap into and believe in it so much that others want to share it.
