Update on my sig other who hates my family...

I just thought I'd post what's happening since some people were kind enough to give me advice the first time I posted.

 

Anyway, my sig other refuses to back down or concede that me spending time with my family is important. I believe that my need for family time and family visits overridess his preference for a 'peaceful, quiet house'

 

Really, it's only a few times a year, for a couple of days at the most. ANd he doesn't have to hang around if he doesn't want to.

 

 

I've talked to about 20 people since posting this and everyone agrees with me, seeing your family several times a year is reasonable. It is also reasonable that when they live several states away, they can stay longer than a day. Everyone has a right to spend time with family and telling someone they cannot is cruel.

 

Furthermore, I offered my sig other the option of me simply going to visit them more often where they live. He didn't like that either. He told me 'that means we'll be spending less time together and that's not good for the relationship

 

This has become such a huge fight that we're thinking of splitting up over it. Seriously splitting up

 

I never thought it would come to this....

My advice is to get rid of him, since he's trying to isolate you from your family. It's one thing to be uncomfortable around your SO's family and therefore limit contact, like my SO does, but to make someone feel guilty because they want to be around their family is a bad sign. You're smart to wanna slip up with him. Good luck finding someone who's more family oriented.

I agree with flowergirl I do not get along with much of my DH's family and I do and will continue to LIMIT my contact with them to the absolutely necessary but he's free to visit with his family as much as he'd like, they are HIS RELATIONSHIPS to have or not have not mine.
