ME
How do you know if you love someone or if its lust? Could someone be in love after, say, a week? A month?
Tony T
1. "How do you know if you love someone or if its lust?" There is really no way. A competent psychologist could give the person a full evaluation and get some idea. If the individual has to ask the question, he or she is NOT in love. Lust is based primarilly on physical attraction. If your "love" feelings are mostly based on the physical, it is surely lust. To truly love someone, you have to get to know them over a period of time. But, again, there are many levels of love. 2. "Could someone be in love after, say, a week? A month?" Yes, but it doesn't happen very often. You can be very smitten with someone and those feelings can grow into love over time but I don't think true love happens so quickly. In most cases, relationships that start off on top very quickly don't have much of a foundation and tank rather fast.
velvet
If it is more attraction yes its possible that its just lust. But lust is a very beautiful thing. And yes I believe lust can turn into infatuation. But being in love means unconditional love the ability to love the person fully, whole no second guesses. Tony T
There is nothing at all unconditional about romantic love. If the love object does not fulfill certain needs of a person, and desires and needs change from time to time, love can blow into the wind so very fast. Committment is far more important. But try to find someone nowadays who has the morals and ethics to keep their committments. This love stuff is not easy. It's a major gamble. But you're starting off with a major handicap if you think romantic love is unconditional. Ain't so, not ever before, not now, and not ever in the future.
