MsArtful
I've been under a lot of stress lately, and this weekend I've thrown up three times! I haven't been making myself throw up, by sticking a toothbrush down my throat or anything, whenever I feel the all the pressure building up I just randomly gag! Has this happened to any of you? Is it normal?
Author MsArtful
Surely it can't just be me this is happening to?...
littlekitty
It's very common for stress to cause nausea and vomiting. It's happened to me before. Nausea and vomiting may also be psychological in origin. Some people vomit under such conditions of emotional stress A little googling should provide a wealth of information to help... blind_otter
Well....I had this problem for 3 years actually, right after I was raped the second time. I went to a gastroenterologist and everything. They did upper GI endoscopies, colonoscopies, they did a study where I ate a scrambled egg with radioactive particles in it and I laid under a machine getting pictures of my stomach taken for 4 hours while they watched me digest. The concluded that I had "idiopathic gastropareisis" -- early satiation from food (full after a few bites) and nausea that would often result in throwing up. I couldn't handle solid food for those 3 years and lived off liquid nutrtion and ensure. It was pretty bad. My stomach muscles didn't move normally, if at all. This can happen because of stress. I dunno if you're having the same issue I had. If you continue having problems see your doctor and get some solid medical advice. But I wanted to let you know that this actually is a legitamate health issue. I feel your pain.
Author MsArtful
Thanks so much for your replies! It's nice to know that I'm not I alone in this, I haven't thrown up today - which is good, but if it continues to happen I will see my doctor. Thanks again!
Rikka
Yeah, I get sick when I am overly stressed or anxious. I throw up, am nauseated, etc. Mine is no where near as bad as yours I would guess (it has never caused me concern) but it has been going on since i was a child.
superconductor
Stress causes me to have nausea too, though I don't recall ever throwing up from it. But it's not out of the ordinary. Have you been coughing too? Or sneezing a lot? It may just be some allergies that are causing post-nasal drip which is acting as a trigger.
whichwayisup
When I have really bad anxiety, I gag. It's the only way to relieve the energy I feel in my tummy. I never throw up, but the gagging makes me feel better. It's weird and quite embarressing, especially if I'm out and about! Try yoga and learn how to calm your mind and body so you won't feel that stress in such a physical way. ANother thing to try is Rescue Remedy, it's an herbal flower that has no side effects, you put drops in water then drink it. That is supposed to calm nerves.
Author MsArtful
Thanks for all your replies! I haven't been sneezing and coughing lots, so its not due to allergies. I haven't thrown up lately, because the work load has eased up a little and I'm not as stressed. I will look into the "Rescue remedy" you mentioned whichwayisup, it sounds good. I am tryiing to go swimming whenever I start feeling stressed as I am not a yoga person, it helps. Thanks again!
