Fate or False Thinking?

I feel that some things are given; if so, are relationships predetermined? Or are we prone to our mates because we have similar personalities or connections.

nothing is set in stone. you are free to make decisions about what your life will be. you may be more likely to make certain choices based on your character, life experience and genetics, but you're not fated to life a certain life.

I believe fate is true, I think fate is all around you...its just up to you to determine the outcome of fate.

Cool.

Now I can just sit at home and wait for fate to deliver me all the things I'm supposed to have!

What's on Oprah today? And where are my bonbons?

Okay, I didn't say fate just magically appears, It needs some assistance in happening. I believe that and no one else here can make me believe other wise:)

What if your destined to not have anything, so sitting around waiting for nothing is your fate? :p

I think that some things in life are just meant to be, or not. Especially when it's something you try very hard to attain and it still just doesn't work out. I think it's fate, or it just wasnt destined for ya.

I think some people go through life thinking fate will find their " final destination ". I look at it like this, life isn't about always finding that " special " someone its about finding you, and who you are. As much as some cuples are truely in love, despite that...you can't live on it. And make that your happy ending. When I think of fate, I don't just think of fate bringing me to a lover. I think of it as helping me grow as a person. I haven't find my 2nd love I would love it but its just another pleasure life has to offer. You gotta look at all the other wonderful things and the love from within you. If your sitting on the couch doing nothing watching opra fate will not happen. Fate is what you bring to it and how you discover it on your own

I really think there is some element of fate in my life....

When I look back, especially two years ago....I feel it had to be fate that helped me with an important area of my life. Granted, I had much to do with it...but I certainly got lucky in the end and I feel it was fate that played a helping hand.

I don't think fate governs every aspect of our life...we are not all just helpless beings acting out some pre-determined script. But clearly there are times in my life when I have realized that something was just meant to be.....to be fated....whether for good or bad.

Silent type- I believe that too. I don't think life can be based on fate, destiny all the time. I think the major events that happen in your life are fate... I look back at my relationship and realize fate broke us up, it was tired of seeing me beat myself up and get screwed over. I really truely believe that breakup brought me where I am now.

I agree with you BJ :p

I mean, I don't think its fate when I coincidently checked my mail at the time that the mailwoman came by...little everyday things like that are just random incidents.

But I think especially that certain things are governed by fate. Like you, I feel fate plays a big part in relationships. It's my belief that in that area of life what's meant to be is meant to be. If a relationship was getting bad, like your previous one, its just meant to be...you two are on different wavelengths.

I feel that if I make the effort and keep on searching....and try to remain a decent guy in the process....fate will give me a lucky hand and place a girl I will like in convenient circumstances for me to meet her. Yeah, I'll have to do most of the work...looking for this person and then shoring up the courage to ask her out. But fate will have helped me by just putting that one special girl, that one who has a sympathetic understanding of you among the millions of girls who don't care for you, in a perfect place for me to run across her.

I'm not saying fate will help me find a soulmate....but I do think it will help me find a person who's more on my wavelength compared to others I have met prior.

Anyways, BJ, I think there are stronger examples of fate out there. I was reading a story once in the news, and there was one about this guy who worked in the World Trade Center. On the day of 9/11, he got a few minutes late for work, and as a result he could not make it to his office. His tardiness is ultimately what saved him from the fate of the others high up in the building when the planes slammed into it.

Events like that really convince me of some kind of fate playing a hand in life.

:lmao: you're serious? because some guy didn't get pulverised that day you say there was something predestined about it?

i don't get that at all. everyone can look back and say it must have been fate because when they're talking about history it's hard to make an argument to show that something that did happen, might not have.

but that has nothing to do with predetermination, which is what the fate/no fate argument is about.

the fate argument is purely for people who don't want to take responsibility for their actions or who want to dream that everything will magically be okay because a benevolent universe has chosen for them not to go to work that day and get killed. it's a child's way of looking at the world.

But what about deja vous, doesn't that explain some form of validity of predetermination. How can some of these phophecy happen a day, weeks, or years before it happens.

deja vu = brain blip. the feeling you've done something before when you haven't. i believe it's caused by a malfunction between the long and short term memory curcuits in the brain. it's certainly nothing to do with predetermination.

prophecy = nothing to do with predetermination either. i find some people horribly predictable. it doesn't mean they can't change, it just means so far, they haven't. and i imagine scenarios all the time that don't come true. just because i once dreamed someone had died and when i woke up, they had, doesn't make me moses.

I believe in fate. But I have a different idea of what fate might be. To me, fate has to do with how you came to be and not your "destiny". To me, my own fate is that I was born with autism. I don't think that I'm destined to be something in five or ten years. Destiny has already been proven changeable before! So why should I believe in destiny?

I don't know about fate anymore, I used to believe in soulmates and destiny, but now??? I believe in love, but I don't believe in forever. I believe that sometimes we share our lives with people but there is no way of knowing if it will last a day or a lifetime. There is no way of knowing anything for sure.

Fate all to often becomes an excuse to never really grow up. To never take responsibility for your own actions. To forget about doing what is right and just do what is right now...

Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don't. You just have to take life as it comes, what you do with it is up to you. I suppose I operate more on faith than on fate... faith that when opportunity comes I will see it and do my best to make it work for me. Faith that it is better to love people and use things instead of the other way around. Faith that things will get better because they can't get any worse.

Faith just means that it doesn't matter what things look like right now, I'm going to be happy right here, right now, and everything else will follow.

I think I'm growing up but I still add a few fate a few destiny here and there and hope and dreams
