Annulment results?

My understanding that legally, there is no such thing as an annulment. It only gets "wiped from the record books" in the church's eyes. Legally you have to get a divorce.

Condor - Google "annulment + your state". In Michigan, there IS a legal proceeding for annulment. Some of the criteria for having the marriage 'annulled' (as if it never happened) are fraud, underage, already married (oops! I forgot I was already married), among other things.

Google it.

so if it was legally annulled you could tell people you were never married before? it wipes the slate clean? that's sorta wierd. I thought only catholics annulled. I didn't know anyone could get it. I'll keep this in mind for my 2nd marriage

An annulment is sought in order to nullify the marriage and disavow its existence, returning the parties to their prior single status, as if they never married. The person seeking the annulment has the burden of proving to the court that one of the conditions of nullity has been met in order to have the annulment approved. Annulments are most often sought by people who feel stigmatized by the status of being divorced, or for ease of remarriage in their particular religion.

Yeah - just make sure you 'trick' the person into marrying - like you're shooting blanks and they want kids, you're old and they're 13, marry six different people, etc. :D
