Touche
I don't see how you can say there was no harm done to the wife. He violated the marriage. Whether it was consential or not, he took advantage of the situation and broke the sanctity of this marriage. Harm was done to both the wife AND the husband, I'm glad there isn't any children involved or he would've hurt them too.... Yes, there was harm done to the wife but she brought it on HERSELF. It's her own responsibility. She was not raped. Yes, the guy took advantage but SHE put herself in that situation. She's the only one responsible for her bad choice.
Author Moose
jesus said the things he had done, so could we do.I do believe this as well. Although, I've yet to master walking on water.....tell me something, why is it that I can believe all that I want, yet lack the faith to do what Jesus is able to do?being human and knowing your limitations is different than using those limitations as an excuse for anti-christian behaviour.I can't tell if you think I'm looking for approval, or if you understand I recognize this as a real problem. But, you are helping me to understand why people feel the way they do about this. So thanks for that.i did not almost judge you. i did judge you, and because i feel strongly that you are acting out of accordance with your deepest held beliefs, i would do it again and again. And for that, my deepest thanks. And I mean that sincerely, no joke.you cannot be willing to beat someone up and be a christian. they're mutually exclusive states. the same as you cannot hold anger in your heart and love. you indulge one, you lose the other.I understand this. And I agree. I just don't know that I could handle a situation like that without flying off the handle. This doesn't mean I'm not a Christian. And as Mrs. Moose and I discussed this thread, she kindly reminded me, (as she so often does), that no, I can't handle something like this myself. And neither could she. We would both have to hand it over to God and let Him deal with it, and get on with our lives. I guess it's a good thing that God hasn't allowed something like this happen to me. Because that would be one of the hardest things in my life to do. Thanks again for your input BT, and I'm sorry for getting so defensive.....you really helped out!
Author Moose
How is something being done to your wife or kids any different that something being done to yourself ? Isn't it the same thing ? therefore if you can turn the other cheek if someone does something to you then you should be able to turn the other cheek if someone does something to your wife or kids ..I see where you're coming from. I guess I wouldn't mind myself being punished because the chances would be that I deserved it for some reason?? Or because I think I could probably handle the abuse better than they can?? I just know that out of all of us, if anyone ever had to get hurt, I'd prefer it be me... But you're absolutely right. In this case I should consider my family and I as a whole. Thanks! bluetuesday
I've yet to master walking on water.....tell me something, why is it that I can believe all that I want, yet lack the faith to do what Jesus is able to do? i believe i know the answer to this. but if it was you who knew the answer and me who was asking, i probably wouldn't believe you if you told me, and i guess the reverse is also true. this very question started me on the most astonishing journey of my life, moose. i would encourage you to never stop searching for the answer to it. Okay, it's not the answer for you, and I can accept that, but I don't see why you, or others who share your lack of interest, feel the need to cast insult upon those of Christian faith. It makes no sense.. oh well, I went off topic, sorry... as far as the question of violence, something just occurred to me (which may be also slightly off topic, but still sort of fits) but it is that I am against the death penalty, for several reasons, but one reason I have for being against it is that God did not give Cain the death penalty....He chose not to... just a thought...from one of the 'weaker minded" *wink

mental_traveller
scripture is for the weak-of-mind who cannot find their own answers. What does that say about literalist religions, for example Islam? You can't be a Muslim and not believe the Koran, word for word.
mental_traveller
There has only been ONE perfect Christian. There will NEVER be another one. Totally agree. There is not a single truly religious person on earth. There are billions who think they are religious, but not one human being acts strictly in accordance with their religion. What you have is 1 million different philosophies of life, and 6 billion hypocrites who don't follow them. The sooner people realise that, the better.

lighthouse
Amen. Amen. Amen. I am not a good christian - I don't even know that I am a christian because I think that organized religion is a big load of crap - my opinion. And I get tired of hearing about what the "christian" or "jewish" or "whatever" response should be. It is easy to see why people who are on their religious high-horse fall hardest and fastest. I don't see this place as a place for religion. It is a place for advice and help and maybe religion "helps" some people but it angers a lot of us. LH

riobikini
Look, we've all been confronted with something that was, for us, "the last straw". Tendering that with a religious bent is like lighting a match to a stack of dry wood. I've never witnessed anyone who stopped and turned to ask his trolling buddy to pull out the holy scriptures for review just one more time before delivering an as*-whipping to someone who clearly needed one, although, I *did* hear my grandmother once say, "God help me", under her breath before she cut a switch off the oak tree in the front yard. (Smile). We all have our breaking points. It doesn't mean we're hellbound with no hope. It doesn't mean we've turned our back on what we believe. It just means we're human and certainly proves the point of *why* we need to believe in *something* to begin with. Take care. -Rio
