Never
Okay, well the title may be a bit misleading, because I'm about 6' and weigh 135lbs. I don't need to lose weight entirely; but around my belly button area, it is more out than the rest of my body. I exercise quite often and I'm forming defined ab muscles, but that one spot doesn't seem to change. At first we thought it was a hernia or something around my belly button, but the doctor told me that he thinks I'll grow out of it since I'm still growing. Well it's been about two years since he told me that, and it's still there. I've had it since I was about 12 until now, 16 and not much has changed. Anyone know specific exercises I can do, or can relate to what I have, or have any comments to help me with this? Thank you
Blackfrost
there's no way to spot reduce fat on your body, unless you go with liposuction. you just have to work out until it all burns off
amaysngrace
It sounds like you need to do work on your obliques (sp?). Not quite sure from your description, but you can target certain areas and exercise them for positive results.
amaysngrace
Okay just looked it up and I'm wrong AGAIN today. The obliques are the long muscles down the sides of your stomach, but in order to get the best results for a toned tummy, it does say you should exercise these as well as abs. As for abs, the two best things you can do are crunches and leg lifts (inverted crunches). To get maximum results, do twisted crunches to incorporate the obliques.
Guest
You're only 16. You should be eating well and not worrying about your 'abs'. You are not yet grown up. So don't waste your time trying to exercise off a little bit of bump that only you notice. At 6' and 135lbs you are way too thin for your height, IMHO.
Author Never
thank you for the advice, I have started to do bicycle-style sit-ups to incorporate different parts of the stomach. and to the guest - I know I'm only 16 but I would like to get off on a good track, and try and get rid of this before it becomes harder to do so. And I'm not incredibly skinny. I took this not too long ago you can't see it as much in that picture because of the lighting, but in other pictures, the area around the belly button being more out is more defined
amaysngrace
Never - your stomach's hot. What are you worried about? That part that's protruding looks like a muscle. Mmm...looks good to me!
tanbark813
It sticks out because it's muscle. You don't need to shrink that part, you need to bulk up the rest of your body. 6'0", 135 lbs is really skinny. Hit the weights and eat an asston of protein. If you bulk up your chest and upper body in general it won't look like it "sticks out" as much.
