I hear you Sand and Water.

I don't drink any caffiene SG or drinks with sugar in them.

Thanks for the post Sparky. I am not concerned with my own obesity. The chances of that are pretty low. But I am a journalist, my life is consumed with social woes. It is hard to switch it off at the end of the day.

I am going to Hamilton Island, a tropical get away with girlfriends for the weekend will be much appreciated and hopefully I can find a guy to occupy my sleepless nights

i'm an insomniac. i don't sleep much to begin with but when i'm stressed or depressed about something (read: most of the time) i REALLY don't sleep. i've resorted to taking all kinds of sleeping pills on a sporadic basis (i.e. two weeks with nothing and then a few days of X sleeping pill).

it sucks.

i will go several days with very little sleep and feel utterly exhausted and still no sleep.

going to see someone to talk about my anxiety, stress, etc. it comes from being a high strung personality.

i need to learn to calm down.

i'm glad you started this thread as a lot of people don't understand not being able to sleep. i am envious of those for whom sleep comes easily and can pretty much shut themselves off whenever. ???? i could never understand that.

Valerian is good.

Yes, Valerian is the herb that they made the drug Valium from.

There are a lot of herbal remedies that contain valerian and other calming herbs such as camomille, catnip, hops, skullcap, etc. Also herbal teas like Sleepytime and Tension Tamer. These all work for me when I need them, and they are natural and not addictive.
