makeup for very oily skin

Recommended Posts

HI, I need some honest opinions here. I have very oily skin, with breakouts occassionly but mainly just very oily. I have worn Merle Norman makeup for years, but they are discontinuing their oil control line. I can wear store brand blush and eye stuff, but I need a good foundation and loose powder. Does anyone have oily skin and can recommend a good foundation and loose powder? I was thinking maybe Clinique or Origins. Thanks so much!

Cornsilk is very good but I don't see it around much anymore. You may try finding it online. Also, try Clean and Clear oil control sheets. They work well. You just blot them on your face and they soak up the oil without messing up your makeup.

I have skin that is terribly acne prone. I use Almay acne resistant makeup. However, if I had more money, I'd go with Clinique. Their oil control line of make up and skin products is excellent.

I have not had good experiences with Mary Kay's products, or Avon's products.

Your best bet is to go to a dermatologist and get on some kind of skin care program. Antibiotics worked very well for me (topical and oral) and with in a few months my skin was totally clear.

I have heard that mineral foundation powder masks problem skin, but I'm not sure how well it helps to clear up the problem.

Proactive dried my face out to the point where it was peeling, but it may work for you.

For the smaller breakouts: use tea tree oil (yes! -even though you have oily skin) -because it has an oil base, and is an antiseptic that fights bacteria, it does two jobs at the same time: penetrates the facial oils deep in your skin, draws it out, and leaves things nice and clean.

If your skin is really oily, still use it only about every two days to avoid over drying or irritation from overuse.

And careful that you do not get it into your eyes! Expect a little bit of a sting if your breakouts are open.

After using the tea tree oil to clean your face, try hazelwater for a natural astringent -you might decide to use it all the time; all but a trace scent of it usually fades a few minutes after you use it.

As for the foundation: One poster above already nailed one of the best solutions for oily skin: mineral foundation.

It's extremely light-weight, looks natural, and you go with the minimal application.

By the way, there are some great mineral base sun-toned cheek blushes/bronzers out there, too.

Also, I think there's a visible difference in whether you use a hard water or a soft water to cleanse your face (or anything, for that matter).

We all know oil and water don't mix -and that if you're skin is oily and you prefer water to cleanse it, there has to be something else used to help lift out the oils.

Whatever it is that you normally use to clean your face -through my own personal experience- has always worked better when I used distilled water, or water that has been softened (works well with very dry or color treated hair, too: conditioners penetrate much, much better).

One more thing: with all makeup application remember to really get those brushes and applicators clean (do it routinely) -especially with oily skin, and during breakouts (do it every day)...and use as many disposable applicators as possible e.g. sponges, eyeshadow applicators, etc.

Hope this helps.

-Rio
