napoleandynamite
Today at my job, my boss came back. I have been typing up a proposal for her for the past few days, of which was already formatted by her assistant prior to me and I needed to "edit" it (with her additions, deletes, etc). Because she has been away on business, I have been emailing her the updates with her new revisions (back and forth). The last one I updated, she called me and said it "looked good" and to "print out a copy and leave it on her desk so she can give it "one more final look before send it out". I did so. Next morning (today) she reviewed it and added in one more sentance she said she "meant to put in, but forgot to tell me" and to fix it and give it to her to sign, then finally send out (she handwrites it and I type it). I fix it, print it, hand it in her hands at her office, and then she freaks out because the intials at the end of her signature (w/job title, company, etc) were hers and not mine. She freaked out and said, "but you're the one who typed this up, why would you put my intials there?" Now, maybe I should have noticed that one mundane detail, even after I proofread it with a fine tooth comb about 4X. I informed her that is the way her last assistant had it formatted (from the file shespecifically told me to use only!) and that I sent her plenty of proposal updates as per her revisions and after every check, she said it was fine-other than what SHE forgot to put in or decided to TAKE OUT. She then said, "I depend on you to do these things!" WTF? She never had complaints about the letters/proposal/presentations I typed up for her before. Now she is complaining? Anyway, at the end of the day right before I left, I overheard her on the phone talking to "whoever" saying "I want to replace her, now I need her" and she saw me walk by her office on the way out saying that and kind of shrugged her head down. Now...before I ask my question, let me remind you she is a consultant and her job does consist of firing/recruiting new people for her clients. Also we are a large company (someone is always coming and going). My question: Does it sound like I'm on my way out of this job already? I got a "vibe" she was so upset with me about this, that she feels I can be a good assistant to her. What do you think? Does this sound like a really bad mistake, bad enough to let someone go, or am I just being my usual obsessive insecure self. Help! I am afraid I will be out of a job yet again, and this will be my third job in a one year period. I feel so useless. I have a BA degree, experience, and everyone said how I have such "a good head on my shoulders". I feel like dying (i don't mean literally). Will I ever be able to keep a job going? Even at least make it one year so I can be happy? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CarolAnne
I'm starting to wonder myself if the secret to holding a job is half ass-kissing, half excellent work. Good work alone, I've found, sometimes makes your superiors jealous especially when you get the attention for it. Also I've been blamed for other people's mistakes (which I found shocking the first time it happened), that way my superior doesn't have to take the blame for not catching the other person's mistake. How convenient! Just blame it on me Maybe something like that is going on in your situation?
Author napoleandynamite
it's possible. Actually...at my last job, I was blamed for mistakes that occured before I even started working there! It was a family-owned business and I was one of the only three people who was not a blood relative or close friend. I just wish I could keep a job for once in my life. It would be nice if two years down the line, I still had the job I have now. Rather than being on my 15th job for the year by then! I'm freaked out about my resume as well. If this job doesn't work, my resume isn't going to be good. Not to mention, I have no other computer skills, so I can't do anything more creative-which is something I am good at!
