My Mom is beside herself. She said if it weren't for her children and grandchildren she wouldn't want to go on. They were married for 35 years and she's as nutty as a fruit cake, just like me. He gave the stability she needed to function but I am very very very concerned. Now everyone says, otter you take care of your mother....not knowing how our relationship is...but I feel obligated.

Yeah, I hear you on the obligation.

She's going to grieve hard for 35 years and her being nutty doesn't make it any easier......

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better.

Yeah well I just laid down on the bed that he died on and cried and talked to him and pounded the mattress. I feel like he told me, "No one ever knows what to do. We just do it, and deal with the consequences. That's life. Don't forget to take care of my dog, because no one else will."

I would say the rest of her life, but I suppose that isn't a bad estimate.

She's only 55, you know. So young. Dad was 76 -- he died 2 days short of his birthday. I'm glad he hung on to celebrate my birthday with me. Not that we celebrated or anything. I miss him like hell though. If he were here he would edit my articles for me. :( he always loved to write and encouraged me to do so.

sorry B_0. You'll find your family dynamics will change permanently, some for the better some for the worse. It will take 3 or 4 yrs for things to settle down but life must go on. There is not much you or anyone else can do.

So much to look forward to! She'll still be screwing with your head for years to come.

"Don't forget to take care of my dog, because no one else will."

this will sound crazy, but would you be able to bring his dog home to raise? Because being able to love and care for the very critter he loved and cared for brings a healing balm ... and that this animal is his greatest gift to you for this very reason. At least this is what I'm discovering with the little guy that my mother begged me to raise after she died.

more hugs to you,

quank

hah, I have 3 dogs of my own so that wouldn't be too possible. I visit him and yell at people to feed him dogfood, and I scratch his ears. He's an old fat dog, but I love him. My mom swears she'll care for him and maybe that's good. Something to focus on.

What is that supposed to mean? Like, it didn't work out so great for you??

What's old fatboy's diet like?

What's old fatboy's diet like?

He refuses all dog food or dog food like treats. My Dad fed him exclusively on table scraps for 12 years straight and now he looks like he swallowed a watermelon and has these toothpicks for legs poking out at angles. His ass is so fat I call him "bowling ball butt" because he can't just stand up. He scoots backwards until he reaches an obstacle and then leverages his mass upwards and sort of shuffles around.

True story.

poor dog ... he's going to be in for a rude awakening if your mom tries to initiate a healthy diet! Still trying to get my husband to quit feeding the dog fried chicken – he's already been to the vet for problems from that :D

the bad part is that once they get accustomed to table food, they won't eat anything else they're "supposed" to ...

These are a few of my favourite things. Provided they're still connected.

Are you both having a good time with each other?

Speak of the devil...I mean, goddess. How convenient of you to turn up just in the nick of time. Are you warmed up?
