Should I just be patient, or?

Recommended Posts

My current boyfriend and I have been together for almost 8 years. I am trying to determine how to view our current situation. Here are the facts:

-We started dating in high school

-He is now 25 and I am 23

-We have lived together since I graduated HS 5 years ago

-He bought a house on his own 5 years ago and sold a year and a half ago, now we both live in the house that I own

-He said he doesn't want to get married until he turns 25 . . . which was last May

-I support both of us until his business gets up and running (a year in the making)

At this point everyone is saying I am crazy for waiting, but I always figured we were still young, but as time passes we are getting older . . . should I just sit tight and be patient??? Or ??

Thanks!

Well, he's 25 now. What's the hold-up? If he has another excuse, that might be a bad sign. 8 years is a long time, but I think the fact that you started dating him at 15 makes a difference, so waiting a little bit would be okay. But you need to talk to him about what he sees in your (collective) future.

25 and 23 is hardly old. Perhaps he said he'd want to wait until he turned 25 back when he thought 25 seemed really old (:lmao:), and now that he's 25 he realizes that he doesn't feel like a grown up any more than he did at 23 or 20.

If it's all the years together that is making you antsy, you should really talk to him and find out what he thinks of marriage now that he is 25. He may have some fears or worries that you aren't aware of. He may be afraid to get married without having dated other women. Or he may be planning a proposal. You don't know what's on his mind if you don't ask.

Thanks everyone. I know I need to bring it up, I just don't want him to feel rushed . . . I do know he is somewhat afraid because his mom was divorced twice while he was growing up . . . I will just tell him what is on my mind and go from there. After all, communication is SO important.
